Your Belief System Must Be Constructed In Your Heart With The Help And Guidance Of The Holy Spirit!
Romans 10:9-10 (NIV)
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
The terminology often used for a profession of faith is heartfelt or genuine belief based on some well-known person or a pastor. However, Paul wrote the selected verses used for this VOW that the commitment needs to be a personal statement of belief, “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” While many churches may believe your faith requires a personal commitment, they may not openly state it as they want to take credit for teaching how and what to believe.
Of course, I believe you need to select a church to attend regularly that preaches and teaches based on the instructions supplied by God in our Bible. However, your belief system must be constructed in your heart with the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit! I believe therefore that your faith needs to be based on your personal knowledge of God’s Word. Paul wrote to Timothy describing his need to study the Bible to develop his personal belief before planning to teach other people. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
I often wondered why Jesus came into this world when He did? Paul wrote about this and commented that it was God’s right time! You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:6-8). God’s timing may not seem to us to be the best time for the Son of Man to enter this world, but the expansion of the salvation plan to now include the Gentiles with God’s chosen people, seems right and good to me. What do you think?
Paul wrote about how Jesus Christ coming into this world was imprinted on his mind, when Jesus came upon Paul one day as he was travelling. Paul then felt compelled to pass on what Jesus imprinted into his brain that day he met Jesus. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born. (1 Corinthians 15:3-8).
Not only did Paul feel the need to share what Jesus had told him, but he felt the need to offer proof of Jesus’ resurrection too, based on eyewitness accounts he knew about! Paul even included the comment describing this appearance Jesus made to him, but Paul also refers to Jesus’ unusual entry into this cursed world, “and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.” Paul describes the virgin birth of Jesus, “one abnormally born.” Then Paul wraps up the evidence with his own account of how Jesus informed him rather forcefully about Who He is and how Jesus left this world by saying, “and last of all he appeared to me also!” So, Paul never met Jesus Christ in this world, but Jesus made the contact with Paul to make him like the Apostles!
Chances are surprisingly good that you will not be contacted by Jesus Christ and temporarily blinded as Paul was, but if you want to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, see what Jesus said about it. Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it. (Luke 9:23-24). To truly be a disciple of Jesus we must be willing to die to this mortal life and take on your immortal life, and thus, to be born again! This so-called death in reference to your sinful nature your inherited in this cursed world.
Peter wrote about this potential death or weakness of your sinful natures hold on you in this world. “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” (1 Peter 2:24). Jesus died for your (our) sins so that we could better control our sinful nature in this world.
If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, then you can believe in the power of Jesus dying on that cross to offer you freedom and peace in this cursed world! For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18). In this cursed world it is the command Jesus left behind for us, His followers to tell non-believers how Jesus Christ in your life has greatly improved your self-esteem!
In this world the only true Way to obtain a righteousness from God, and it is only available by believing Jesus Christ is who He says He is! Paul wrote about this for the church in Rome, and for us! This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. (Romans 3:22-24).
It is very important for all of us to believe that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” And to believe that we, “are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Salvation is only available to those who come to believe that Jesus Christ offers the only Way for human beings to end up in heaven, when the new heaven is ready for you, and that is fulfilled by becoming a follower of Jesus Christ in the cursed mortal world!
Knowing this salvation plan God offers allows us to know that all human beings are created in the image and likeness of God as contained in our immortal soul, and thus, we all start living in this mortal world with the same problem that we all also inherit a sinful nature. Knowing this should allow us to love all other people as we are all equal in God’s eyes. God’s law as taught to us by Jesus Christ when He was the Son of Man tells us we are all equal in God’s salvation plan, and thus we should love all of mankind. Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. (Romans 13:8).
