Who Is It That Overcomes The World? Only He Who Believes That Jesus Is The Son Of God.
John 3:18 (NIV)
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
In this world there are only two types of people, you are either a believer or a non-believer! Either you believe Jesus Christ is who He has said He is, or you do not believe in Him! If you have been born again, by coming to follow Jesus Christ, then when you die, your immortal soul will go to heaven, OR your immortal soul will end up in hell! Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. (1 John 5:5). As the selected verse states, “Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned!”
When Solomon became the king of Israel, he prayed to God for wisdom so he could lead the Hebrew people, and the Scriptures affirm that God granted Solomon’s prayer request. We can read what Solomon said God had revealed to him about mankind. There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins. (Ecclesiastes 7:20). So, as we admit, all people have a sinful nature that causes us to all be sinners. In this cursed world that is why we need a Savior who covers over our sinful nature, so we can be acceptable to a Holy, Holy, Holy God!
John wrote about our need to accept our salvation through belief in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. (1 John 5:12-13). Many people in this cursed world do not believe that they have an immortal soul that will never die! Such people have been confused by the many confusing belief systems in this world, or by lack of knowledge of who Jesus is and thus they have such foolish beliefs. A Psalmist wrote, The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no-one who does good. (Psalm 14:1).
As we again approach the celebration of Easter, we need to be reminded of what Jesus did when He walked this earth as the Son of man. Then He died for your (our) sins arose and ascended into heaven as the Son of God! The writer of Hebrews stated we as believers need to concentrate our thoughts on what Jesus did for us to assure our eternal life continues with Him, when we die and leave our mortal bodies behind on this earth. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2).
As the writer of Hebrews wrote about how believers receive a Spirit, which reminds us that we are His follower, when in normal life situations we will be alerted to avoid sinful situations. Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us. (1 John 3:24). Believe it, you were changed when you became a follower of Jesus Christ! Jesus is ready to share any burdens you may experience in this world. Jesus once taught His followers that He is always ready to have you share a yoke with Him, which will reduce your need to face your earthly struggles alone. Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30).
When you take on Jesus’ yoke, then you would by pulling your life struggles with the help of Jesus. When a yoke was put on oxen then the two of them were united and could then pull together to manage the load easier by sharing the weight of the load to be moved. Thus, Jesus is willing to help you manage the stresses and requirements of leading your life in this cursed world, by offering His power and guidance with your burdens of everyday life!
It is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also— not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience towards God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand—with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him. (1 Peter 3:17-22).
There is evidence of new life all around us in this area of the world, as the spring showers bring on the early blooming flowers, and the trees are shooting out leaves, and many of them are also now covered in flowers. It is a time that we may be reminded of our new life awaiting us as believers, as our immortal soul has been released from the bondage our sinful nature, when we were born again and became a new creation, forever released from the bondage of our sins! Jesus is now pulling with us through this world’s temptations to participate in worldly worries and stresses. Jesus has left the Holy Spirit behind to share our yoke to make life easier for us.
Remember overcoming this world does not mean that you will become rich in this world! Overcoming this world because you believe in Jesus will allow you to maintain a joyful life, as Jesus is willing to share His power with you to help you with your earthly burdens. Becoming wealthy in this world does not mean you will obtain a joyful attitude as you may worry about maintaining your wealth! Then, remember you cannot take your earthly possessions with you when you die! So, in the end, your possessions remain in this cursed world. However, your immortal soul will go to heaven to spend eternity with Jesus Christ, IF you tried to follow His commands and allowed Jesus to share in your troubles while still in this world.
Now that certainly sounds like good news to me! What do you think?
What is Easter about? It is NOT about colored eggs and the easter bunny. Jesus Is The Answer! Be Happy In Jesus! Yes, I know this is a little early for Easter, but I just could not wait!
