So, “If You Confess With Your Mouth, "Jesus Is Lord," And Believe In Your Heart That God Raised Him From The Dead, You Will Be Saved.”
Romans 5:6-8 (NIV)
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
In this cursed world today, it requires each person to decide for themselves what truth to believe. We are all offered several choices to select from to work on to conclude what unseen evidence to study to select what is the true story of life and death. Most of us are willing to believe we are alive, and I will stick to that as evidence that we are born into this world as the result of sexual relations between a male and a female. At least there is a requirement of a female egg, and fertilization with male sperm cells for a human baby to be formed.
Now a more difficult question is does every human being possess an immortal piece we usually refer to as our soul? Again, most people believe in this basic concept, except for atheists who do not believe in any spiritual beings! Now for those who believe in immortality there comes the question of what happens to our soul when our mortal body dies in the cursed world? Followers of Jesus Christ believe that our soul will end up in either heaven or hell, based on what they came to believe while they lived in this cursed world! There are extreme disagreements between denominations about where our soul goes to await heaven being created on the new earth, I have been working on what I believe the Bible tells us. I am willing to share that, if you are interested!
So, how did we get to the point where God allows us to choose to believe that His Son, Jesus Christ supplies the only Way for our immortal soul to end up in heaven when we die? In the Old Testament we read about how God chose a group of people, whose souls could end up in heaven, if they did the proper sacrifices to allow forgiveness of their sins! God did this through one man who followed His orders and believed what God told him.
That man was Abram, later to have God change his name to Abraham. The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you. "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." (Genesis 12:1-3). In this case God chose the group of people who came to be known as Hebrews or Jews. There was no individual selection required for these people, they were included at birth to have salvation offered to them, if they obeyed God’s commands!
Then it seems that God started prophesying that a Savior would be brought to this cursed world and that each individual would be required to follow this Savior to be awarded heaven when they die. Salvation no longer would be given to a chosen group of people. This would then allow salvation to people who were not a member of the Hebrews, as it would include the Gentiles too! And now the LORD says—he who formed me in the womb to be his servant to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to himself, for I am honored in the eyes of the LORD and my God has been my strength—he says: "It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth." (Isaiah 49:5-6).
Then the time had come for this change as described in the selected verses for this commentary. I repeated the selected verses here for ease of following processes of God. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:6-8). This change would allow mankind to regain the individual freedom to decide for themselves to believe in the written accounts recorded in our Bible about Jesus Christ, and to become His followers to gain our salvation.
Paul wrote about the requirement for salvation to the church in Rome, and for us! That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. (Romans 10:8-10). Note: The only real requirements God supplied is that every person develops a faith that would allow us to claim our salvation by believing Jesus Christ is God’s Son and then to repent from our sins! So, “if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Have you claimed your salvation yet?
We can joyfully close this commentary with some encouraging comments from Paul! For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10). Each day we should pray for guidance on completing the good works God may have allowed us to do. If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. (Romans 14:8). Remember that no one is guaranteed to live in this cursed world until tomorrow so do not put off doing good deeds today. However, remember that you are guaranteed tomorrow even if you die in this cursed world today!
Jesus has created a room for you in the Paradise of God! Jesus is waiting for you to join Him there! Do not worry about tomorrow!
