Yes, You Are A Member Of Jesus’ Family, If You Have Been Born Again Into His Family!
Luke 15:10 (NIV)
In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.
Jesus was telling a parable about things, in this case a coin, that were lost and then they were found and how that brings joy to the person who had lost this thing. The underlying story is how there is much joy in saving the immortal soul of a human being, and this joy is being shared by the beings that are now living in heaven. So, as each immortal soul is saved, as the person is born again on this cursed world, “there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Was there rejoicing in heaven for you when you accepted your salvation and repented of your sins?
Many people have difficulty believing there is only one salvation plan available in this world. John wrote about this plan and put it in simple terms for us. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. (1 John 5:12). When a person accepts their salvation by coming to believe that Jesus Christ is who the Bible tells us He is we are changed immediately thus it is referred to as being born again, because now our immortal soul will end up in heaven when we die in this cursed world! Yes, I know this is elementary, BUT only if you believe it! Many people believe that God should accept whatever salvation plan people choose to believe should result in them going to heaven when they die.
It is absolutely necessary that followers of Jesus Christ believe that our Bible is the only book in this world that has been divulged by God to the writers, and that God has guided the translations to be kept holy and blessed by God, so that it is the only book available to mankind that is God’s Word! All other worldly religions are based on the writings of members of mankind, and thus, these writings are not guided and blessed by God. The writer of Psalm 146 warns us about depending on man’s knowledge will not lead you to heaven! Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing. (Psalm 146:3-4).
John recorded the following account where Jesus was training His disciples and teaching them about His impending sacrificial crucifixion, which would be followed by God sending the Holy Spirit to this earth to indwell all those who would love Jesus and chose to follow him on this earth, until He returns. Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, "But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?" Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. Here Jesus is foretelling about people who will love Jesus and try to follow His commands, while living on this earth.
Next, Jesus is telling them about the Holy Spirit coming when Jesus leaves this earth and goes back to sit at the right hand of God in heaven. "All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Then Jesus teaches that He will leave, but He then promises to come back to this earth at some future time. Jesus’ hope is that His foretelling this will help His disciples be prepared for His death and resurrection! "You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe. I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me, but the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me". (John 14:22-31a).
We know from Bible study that the disciples of that time did not understand this teaching of Jesus and they were not prepared for His death and some may not have believed in His resurrection. Not until Jesus ascended did, they come to understand why He came to this earth as the perfect sacrifice required by God. Matthew records the ascension or the Great Commission as it came to be known.
Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:16-20). Even when He ascended it states that, “When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted.”
As Jesus was leaving this earth, He commissioned His followers to carry this message forward, so that people may hear it and come to believe in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, and thus their immortal soul will end up in heaven someday. Do you believe Jesus is the Savior of this cursed world? Have you ever told someone about Jesus? Have you recently told someone about your brother Jesus Christ? Yes, you are a member of Jesus’ family, if you have been born again into his family!
