Our Immortal Souls Are All Saved By The Same Belief That Jesus Christ Is The Savior Of This Cursed World!
John 6:29 (NIV)
Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”
What must I do to be saved? First, you must believe there is an afterlife! Atheists do not believe there is a god or gods, so they believe when you die that is the end of you! More people in this world today do not believe that Jesus Christ is the God sent Savior of the world! God’s Word our Bible, tells us there is a place of separation from the Triune God and eternal punishment called hell, and ALL the people who do not believe that Jesus Christ is the ONE God sent will end up there when they die. Jesus told us what we must do for our immortal soul to be saved when He said, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”
There is only one salvation plan as there is only one Triune God! When Jesus walked this earth to fulfill this plan of salvation only a few people recognized Him as the Messiah. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. (John 1:10). Today there are more people in this world who do not believe in and follow Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, than there are those of us who do believe.
The writer of Hebrews captures the essence of the truth about where Jesus is today. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2). Followers of Jesus Christ are destined to have their immortal soul end up in heaven on the new earth, as Jesus has promised to prepare a room for you in the paradise of God awaiting the move to the new earth!
When we were born into this cursed world, we inherit a sinful nature from that first or original sin. Paul wrote about the struggle that this causes us. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin. (Romans 7:24-25). We all have this pull toward having sinful thoughts, which may cause us to do things we know are sinful! Then Paul wrote about gaining direction away from sinning and living in this body of death! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law!
Paul wrote about this changing from a bent toward sinning to a desire to work on becoming more Christ-like every day. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (2 Corinthians 5:17). We usually refer to this change as being born again. So, even though we are born into this cursed world with a sinful nature we can gain some control over choosing to do sinful acts we will try to avoid such temptations. Therefore, we have become a new creation now equipped to avoid sinning.
Followers of Jesus Christ are to become one as we are all going to end up in heaven, so while still on this earth we should also become one through the shared love of Jesus! Paul wrote about this ideal of togetherness. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28).
This shared belief system will never occur in this world as we do not desire to even attempt to become ONE and try to understand the other Christian’s may believe. We do not even agree on the salvation plan that God offers. Some require baptism for salvation some do not! Some require baptism by emersion only! Some allow baptism by pouring or sprinkling. Some require baptism of babies! Some baptize only those who have affirmed their belief in Jesus Christ!
The Great Commission given by Jesus when He was leaving this cursed world and going back to be with God the Father, does mention baptism! Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:16-20).
Jesus was baptized when he walked this earth as the Son of Man, and He chose to have it done! Jesus came to John the Baptist and asked to be baptized. But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfil all righteousness." Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." (Matthew 3:14-17).
Jesus being baptized certainly got Satan’s attention. Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. (Matthew 4:1). As can be seen here we can know that baptism is a very important event in the life of anyone who chooses to become a follower of Jesus Christ. Have you been baptized? If not, it would certainly seem to be a good idea to do it! If you are reading this, and you would like to supply your opinion about the importance of baptism, please reply to this vow commentary with some comments!
Paul wrote about how followers of Jesus Christ should form one body of believers with each person supplying an important and required part of that body of believers. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. (Romans 12:4-5). This should not be limited to each church body, but we should be attempting to be part of the entire body of believers in this world. Our immortal souls are all saved by the same belief that Jesus Christ is the Savior of this cursed world! Are you working on becoming more Christ-like every day? If you are then you are included in this body of Christ!
As a Psalmist once wrote, “This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24). Be happy in Jesus! Amen!
