Be Sure To Study This Wonderful Book We Call God’s Word; It Can Cheer Us Up When We May Be Down Because Of Worldly Woes!
Mark 8:36 (NIV)
What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?
When Jesus was about twelve years old, He strayed from His parents, and thus, was left behind, and His parents did not miss Him for a time. When they realized He was not still with the caravan, they returned to search for Him, and after three days they found Him. When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you." "Why were you searching for me?" he asked. "Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?" But they did not understand what he was saying to them. Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. (Luke 2:48-52).
When Jesus was about thirty years old, He started His earthly ministry, which was fired off by Jesus asking John the Baptist to baptize Him. Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfil all righteousness." Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." (Matthew 3:13-17).
Jesus was born into this cursed world destined to be the perfect sacrifice required by God to allow forgiveness of all sins for all people who come to believe that Jesus is the promised Messiah! To accomplish this, it required Jesus to live and die free from committing any sins to complete this perfect sacrifice! And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:8-11).
It is very important to believe that this offer by God for salvation is the only salvation plan available in this cursed world. All other worldly religions claim that following their requirements will end up taking your immortal soul to a heavenly place when you die, but Jesus taught mankind that He is the only Savior sent by God our Father in heaven. Jesus teaching His disciples said, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going." Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:1-6). Jesus plainly teaches us His disciples that Jesus Christ is the only Lord and Savior offered to mankind by God!
Once we accept the gift of salvation we are born again and placed on that narrow path that will lead our immortal soul to heaven when we die and leave this cursed world. This rebirth will help us to ignore the temptations of this world, which our sinful nature will entice us to view as acceptable by God. This battle of good and evil will continue throughout our mortal life in this world.
According to some statistics there are more people in this cursed world who do not believe and follow Jesus Christ, than there are His followers. Paul wrote about our need to pray to Jesus for protection. And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men, for not everyone has faith. But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. (2 Thessalonians 3:2-3). We are told that God allows Satan to have power in this world to tempt everyone, thus we need to pray for the Holy Spirit to help us know the difference between good and evil.
Remember that Satan is an angel, or an evil, angel aka a demon. There is some belief that good angels may also visit this earth and give assistance to people, even yet in this time. The writer of Hebrews wrote about this possibility. Keep on loving each other as brothers. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. (Hebrews 13:1-2). The loving attitude of a believer toward their earthly family members may be rewarded by getting assistance from an angel. Remember, all human beings are part of the created family of Jesus. Your ancestors started with Adam and Eve, then was continued by the sons of Noah and Emzara after the worldwide flood!
Note that God was encouraging mankind to show love for each other even before Jesus Christ came into this cursed world. Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord. (Leviticus 19:18). God will offer protection for every human being and creature in this created world. A palmist wrote about this loving watchfulness of God. The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. (Psalm 121:7-8). Remember, Jesus created this world perfect it was to be heaven on this earth, then sin entered it and suffering and death followed, there was no death before sin!
In Isaiah we read about having the great hope in the promises of God as contained in His book, we call our Bible, it will help give us strength through hope and faith. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:30-31). Be sure to study this wonderful book we call God’s Word; it can cheer us up when we may be down because of worldly woes! If you believe in Jesus Christ your immortal soul is going to end up in heaven with Him! Now that is Good News!
