Is Your Name Recorded In The Lamb’s Book Of Life, And All Those You Love Too?
John 10:11 (NIV)
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
Today is often referred to as Good Friday, as it is the beginning of the Good News, as until Jesus died for your sins, there was no Way of salvation without you doing the sacrifice! Jesus stepped in and became the perfect replacement, or sacrifice to cover your sins. Are you planning to sacrifice some perfect unblemished animal today to offer atonement for your sins? If you do, it is likely you may be arrested, and of course, you are wasting your time and the life of a poor animal. We somberly celebrate this great sacrifice Jesus made on that Friday over two thousand years ago, with the assurance that His death paid the price for your salvation! Everyone who believes this will be saved!
Some people seem to think that if they are a good person, then God owes them a guarantee of going to heaven when they die. Some such people claim to be Christians, but unless you claim the salvation offered by Jesus’ perfect sacrifice you cannot really be a Christian, and your eternal soul will not go to heaven when you die! God tried to make this perfectly clear to Job during their conversations about why Job was experiencing such difficult times, even though Job had not sinned grievously against God! God said to Job, “Who has a claim against me that I must pay? Everything under heaven belongs to me.” (Job 41:11). Here God is making it clear to Job that He does not have to honor any member of mankind and accept them into heaven, because they believe they are good enough!
The writer of Ecclesiastes emphasizes the importance of living in this world, but not being a part of this world. In this world, the best someone can possess is a good name. A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth. (Ecclesiastes 7:1). Here this writer compares a good name to fine perfume, so that we may at least smell good to others. He says, “A good name is better than fine perfume.” Then he next states how this life is not the ultimate reward from God, as this earthly life will end. Thus, he writes that, “the day of death better than the day of birth.” He is writing about a person who has claimed salvation, and therefore, when they die they will be rewarded with the continuation of their life eternally, where they will live with God forever! Being born starts this earthly life, when you die your eternal life begins an eternal journey with God!
John wrote about what he saw in heaven and what was revealed to him. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. (Revelation 20:12). John is writing about what was divulged to him about the arrival into heaven of believers, and they will hear their name read from a book! This book is called the Book of Life, because it has recorded the names of all of mankind, which has been saved, by accepting the perfect gift of grace earned by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ!
Well, sorry about that you will have to wait until next week to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, but I’m sure you know and believe that account too. Now for the bad news, if you did not accept Jesus perfect sacrifice for your sins, then your name will NOT be found in this Book of Life! This is really bad news, as those who appear at the judgement, and their name is not in the Book of Life their fate is one of doom! If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:15). This could be a great season for you, if you have not accepted Jesus perfect sacrifice, there is still time, if you are alive and reading this commentary!
Please believe the accounts written in the Bible, as these are the Words of God, as revealed to mankind. Paul wrote about his experience, and how Jesus spoke to him, after Jesus struck him and caused Paul to have temporary blindness. I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up. I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ. (Galatians 1:11-12). Has Jesus revealed His Word to you? He will, if you take time to study His Word, that means you must read your Bible, well more than just read it, you must study it. As Paul has written, it is truly the Word of God!
If you already believe and you are working on the plan of becoming more Christ-like, then you also know that you must relay this wonderful message to anyone, and everyone, you are in contact with who “may” not yet accept this message. Do you want your friends and loved ones to get to the judgement, and their name is NOT found in the Lamb’s Book of Life! Jesus told a parable about the sower, and how the seed(s) of belief you sow in people around you, could allow them to believe, and thus, have their name(s) recorded in the Lamb’s Book of Life. I tell you the truth, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. (John 12:24).
Jesus died for ALL of mankind, so that they could believe, and therefore, have their name written in His Book of Life! Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” Today is a Good Friday for all who have accepted this perfect indescribable GIFT!
AMEN!
