You Can Be Certain That Jesus Is The Messiah! (Part 1 of 2)
Luke 2: 8-11 (KJV)
There were shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them, and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
The Verse of the Week for next week, (Part 2 of 2), is centered on the ministry of Jesus Christ. Without the fulfillment of the prophecies presented in Part 2 of 2 the ones about His birth are not as meaningful! Jesus’ followers must remember He lived and died on this earth as a man! However, He arose from the dead and is always God!
Have you ever wondered why God chose to have His Son born into a poor family instead of into a rich one? It seems that God would have chosen to have Jesus born into a wealthy family! Most of us would choose to be born into a wealthy family, if we had the choice, at least it seems that would be true!
I wondered about this for many years, it even caused me some concern about believing that Jesus was really the Son of God! Now it seems there is an obvious answer! It was not God’s plan for Jesus to be born into a royal family where He was destined to be an earthly king. For if Jesus was born into a royal family there would have been recordings made of his birth and life by historians of that day. However, since Jesus was born into a poor family there is little record of His birth, life and death, outside of the Biblical accounts! Therefore, it requires faith to believe, even that He existed, and maybe more importantly that the Biblical stories are factual and true!
This is not to say that God’s plan is a trap for people to fall into so they may lose their souls. It was devised so there is a requirement for people choosing to follow Him to believe the Biblical accounts over stories any mere man could devise! For His followers it then becomes easier to identify the man-made religions of this world, and to know not to follow any other man who ever lived on this earth! We are assured by our faith that Jesus is the only man who ever lived on this earth, who is the Son of God! Do not be fooled, there is only one God, and there is only one Son of God! Their story is only contained in one Book! We can know that this is the exact story of the history of the universe from the Creation accounts in Genesis through the accounts of Jesus, who lived on this earth and died for our sins. The accounts recorded in the Bible were revealed to His followers by God!
The last Book of the New Testament gives His followers the final Revelation supplied through St. John for those events prophesied that will occur in the future! Since we can verify that those prophecies made in the Old Testament came true; it gives us faith to believe the ones outlined in Revelation will also come true! We need to read and re-read this final Book so we know what is going to happen. Take the time to read His stories, because these are the only true stories of the future! You do not need to worry about the future, because He has given us the outcome! I read ahead, you will be glad to know. “We win!”
There are over 100 Bible prophecies that Jesus fulfilled to prove He is the Messiah. Note: The selected verses were taken from Bible study materials created by my friend and mentor Bill Oehler. Following are just a few of these prophecies that will hopefully, help you believe, if you are having trouble understanding who Jesus is! If you already believe, these may help you celebrate the life of Jesus on this earth, during this Christmas season!
Some people will tell you that Jesus never claimed to be the Messiah, I have been told that too, but it is not true! The woman said, "I know that Messiah" (called Christ) "is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us." Then Jesus declared, "I who speak to you am he." (John 4:25-26)
The prophecies are listed with the Old Testament prophecy first, then the fulfillment of that prophecy in the New Testament.
A Virgin To Give Birth:
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Emmanuel. (Isaiah 7: 14)
This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 1:18)
Bethlehem:
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.” (Micah 5: 2)
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem. (Matthew 2:1)
Hebrew Infants:
This is what the LORD says: “A voice is heard in Ramah, mourning and great weeping, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because her children are no more.” (Jeremiah 31:15)
When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi.
Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled: “A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.” (Matthew 2: 16-18)
Out Of Egypt:
When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. (Hosea 11: 1)
So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt. (Matthew 2:14)
Voice Of One Crying In The Wilderness:
“See, I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the LORD Almighty. (Malachi 3:1)
A voice of one calling: “In the desert prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God. (Isaiah 40: 3)
This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: “A voice of one calling in the desert, `Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.'“ (Matthew 3: 3)
Elijah Must Come First:
“See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. (Malachi 4:5)
The disciples asked him, “Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”
Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things.
But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.” (Matthew 17:10-12)
You can believe it, He is the Messiah! You must accept Him as your personal Savior! For there is no other way to save your immortal soul!
Salvation is found in no-one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved. (Acts 4:12)
