Are You Looking For A Sign That The God Of The Bible Exists?
Hebrews 2:14-15 (NIV)
Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
People who do not have a solid belief that there is only one God, and that this God really cares for them, then they have a genuine fear of death that ends their only lifetime. No, such people are not all atheists, some of them even claim to be Christians. The writer of Hebrews here is telling about immortal death when he writes, “him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil,” and the reality is that this determination is made when you die to this lifetime! Therefore, you only need to fear death, if you have not accepted salvation through the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ’s death on that cross.
All members of mankind will die, as it is part of life, because of the original sin! However, not all of mankind will die an immortal death—this is the power of death that Satan controls. Are you still on the fence, so to speak, having trouble believing that there really is only the one God, who is described in the Holy Bible? Are you still waiting for a sign that will convince you there truly is only one God? Maybe you know someone who has difficulty believing that the Bible describes this one God, and thus, there are no other gods. You or they are waiting for some sign that this God really exists. What sign would convince you that God truly exists? Every day we receive signs that this God does exists, but many of them we take for granted. The miracle of birth comes to mind. Every day millions of babies are born into this world. What a miracle that is, another human being lives inside a human being, and then, is born into this world.
Did you recognize the sign in the sky that just happened last week? There was a Total Solar Eclipse that could be viewed in several parts of the United States. Did you see it? You may wonder now, is this a sign that there truly is a God? Do you know that the earth is about 93 million miles away from the sun, and the moon is about 2400 miles away from the earth? Did you next know that the moon is exactly the size to cover the sun when being viewed from the earth? If the earth, moon and sun came into being by a huge explosion billions of years ago, as our children are being taught about evolution, how could such exact measurements be possible totally by chance processes, no design is allowed with true evolutionary theory.
To me, this is a sign that God created the universe just a few thousand years ago, and gave us glimpses of Him through His wonderful creation of everything we see! What do you think, did you observe His presence in this repeatable solar activity, which always occurs in a designed manner? The timing of many movements in our solar system have been tracked and recorded, and can be depended upon to be repeated, if God decides for His creation to continue functioning. So, last week there was a sign that God is still alive and well and looking down from heaven, and letting us know that He is truly there. Scientists already know when such a solar event will occur next, because God is controlling everything in His universe.
This Biblically defined God can control everything, but God is not setting Himself apart from you! In fact, Jesus Christ has promised to be with us, whenever we gather in His name. Those who gathered in a reverential mood to watch this solar eclipse were joined by Jesus, as they brought Him there in their heart. When you attend the church of your choice this weekend remember this simple sign from God that He truly exists, and He was reading the mood of your heart as you viewed this sign from Him. Jesus said, "Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." (Matthew 18:19-20). Whenever, wherever, the body of Christ meets the Holy Spirit will be there too, as every believer will bring Him there in their heart! Now that is a wonderful sign, look for it too!
I recently heard an interesting comment, “Life without God is like trying to dribble a football!” Everything about it is very difficult, is your life like that. You must constantly seek to regain control, because the ball (life) bounced crooked, and you just lost control! Seek spiritual friends, as they also keep Jesus at the heart of their life, earthly friends are really never in control of their life, because they depend solely upon themselves! Is your soul being directed by Jesus, or are you trying to be in control, or are you depending upon mankind to keep the peace. Look around this world, and see how well that is being done.
The solar eclipse is over, but life is happening today, and God is still alive, and seeks a relationship with you, which will last for eternity! Now that is a commitment you can depend on, no matter how your today goes! Live today with Jesus, and tomorrow will take care of itself! Then any fear of death is gone, forever!
