During This Advent Season Can You Be Brave Enough To Tell Someone Who May Not See The Need For Jesus, How Having Him In Your Life Has Allowed You To Enjoy A Happy New Life?
John 1:14 (NIV)
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
The real reason for the season is again being celebrated, but almost no one knows Jesus Christ. Maybe this statement should say not many people care about the real reason for the season! Does Jesus Christ coming into this world to save us from our sins even begin to compare to the zealous endeavors of the Holiday Season shoppers who seek to buy that special gift. If only all those busy shoppers could turn their enthusiasm from shopping on Sunday to joining in fellowship with other believers in the church of their choice! Do more people believe in Santa Claus than believe in Jesus Christ? Is Santa more real than Jesus Christ to more people? Many people believe that both these characters are fictional not real beings. Who will you seek this season of joy? Is shopping on Sunday more important than fellowship?
Let me help you understand that Jesus is a real historical character, and Santa Claus is a fictional character! Oh, I hope I did not just ruin your Holiday Season by this inference. When Jesus still walked this earth as the Son of Man, He sensed the disbelief of some people He attempted to teach. Once He said, I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? (John 3:12). During this Advent season we have another opportunity to renew our commitment to fellowship with other believers and to again try to work on becoming more Christ-like. The reason for this season should cause us to not seek Happy Holidays, but instead to seek Happy Holy Days.
John who walked with Jesus during his life for about three years wrote for us a description of how getting to know Jesus for ourselves can make big changes in our lives. Following are some amazing comments what John wrote for us to help us see what following Jesus can do for us. It has effect in this mortal lifetime, and maybe more importantly it guarantees our salvation in eternity for our immortal soul. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. (1 John 1:6-10).
There is only one absolute truth we can know in this lifetime and John wrote about it for us. John wrote, “If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth!” Jesus is the truth and the life, and He was sent into this world to supply a means of salvation for anyone who believes He is who He says He is. We must believe that we cannot be good enough to gain heaven on our own volition. “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.” Please believe it, we all have a sinful nature that we inherited from the original sin, AKA the Fall of Man.
Yet although we are sinners at heart, or soul, we can still be saved because of what Jesus did in our stead. As John wrote for us, “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” Therefore, if we try to walk in the light of Jesus through the Holy Spirit, we can overcome the worldly desires and stop sinning. This requires a commitment to trying to become more Christ-like every day.
Here is more of the good news to think upon during this Advent season. John teaches us, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. Are you ready to be purified in the season of Jesus coming to allow for mankind to be saved in spite of our sinful nature? Did you get that? Even though we are sinners at heart, He came into this world to offer forgiveness for all your sins. This is the greatest gift of all time! Who needs Santa Claus to help make us happy?
During this season is a perfect time to pray for all those people who have not been able to believe this wonderful story. There are those people who do not feel any need for a Savior, because they think they are good enough to go to heaven when they die. Or they just cannot grasp the reality of Jesus Christ. John wrote about them too. John wrote how such people may think, as he wrote, “If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. Some people do not believe they need to be saved, or they cannot perceive the real meaning of this Advent Season.
Believe it, Jesus came into this world to allow salvation of the immortal souls of all those who can believe His mission, and they are humble enough to hold God/Jesus in complete awe. I believe it, can you believe it too? During this Advent Season can you be brave enough to tell someone who may not see the need for Jesus, how having Him in your life has allowed you to enjoy a Happy New Life?
Paul wrote about this newness of life while still being in this mortal world. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (2 Corinthians 5:17). This change is immediate you do not have to wait until you die in this mortal world. Yes, I know this commentary is more about the impact Jesus had in His earthly ministry, but it all started in this cursed world with His birth through a virgin.
