God Has A Plan For You, If You Accept It!
John 6:67-69 (NIV)
"You do not want to leave too, do you?" Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God."
We make many decisions every day about what we plan to do in each today. Yes, it is true every day offers the possibility of allowing you to decide what you plan to do that day. Yes, you can and should plan for your tomorrow, but the fact is no one is guaranteed they will see tomorrow. And the fact is when you die and leave your lifetime, you cannot take anything from this earth with you, wherever it is that your immortal soul will now reside! The only thing you can gain in this life, that you will take with you is your salvation, if you have come to believe in Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior. Peter recognized this fact as he followed Jesus around on this earth for about three years of ministry work. Have you come to believe in Jesus too? If not, your immortal soul will go to hell when you die.
In the selected verses many people who were following Jesus decided His teaching was too complex for them, and they went away from Him and no longer believed Jesus was the Messiah. Most of the people in this world today do not follow Jesus, because they do not believe He was or is the Savior of the world. What do you believe? Is it difficult for you to accept that there is only one plan for salvation on this earth? Some people believe that there is only one god, and that all religions are following the god they have imagined exists, and they have chosen to follow their version of god. To believe this way requires you to believe that this god must accept this interpretation of a god by the understanding of some part of mankind. Of course, this idea makes no sense, as it would be the god or gods who would be overruling any ideas that mankind may form in their created brains.
It only makes sense that there is only one God, and that that God would decide the requirements of salvation, and that there would therefore, only be one plan, the one God designed. Next it further makes sense that there would only be one Holy Book that was authorized by this one God. This book would offer the absolute truth about this God and could thus be relied on to give mankind guidance about how we should live in this lifetime, and what we should expect from this God. Such a Book would describe this God and explain the plan God has for the salvation of our immortal soul. There can only be one plan, as there is truly only one God. This Book must be directed by this one God, as opposed to being written by any member of mankind. There is in fact only one such Book and it is called The Bible. Peter wrote about the Bible and told about the prophesies included as being supplied by God. Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2Peter 1:20-21). As Peter wrote “prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”
There are hundreds of prophesies given in the Bible that have been fulfilled, some of them requiring hundreds of years to be fulfilled. Over one hundred prophesies were given in the Old Testament that were fulfilled by Jesus coming into this world as a member of mankind. In today’s selected verses, Peter said to Jesus “You have the words of eternal life, you are the Holy One of God." Here Peter was talking to Jesus about Jesus being the “Holy One of God." Notice here that Peter refers to Jesus as the “Holy One” not as one of the holy ones, but the only one! Peter experienced the love of Jesus in a closeup manner as he was with Jesus on almost a daily basis. Jesus had chosen Peter and made him a fisher of men by showing him love and acceptance, as he was. John wrote about this love God has for all mankind. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. (1John 4:10). This gift of grace is offered to all who believe it is a valid offer.
Jesus once said to Peter to “come follow Me,” has Jesus made this offer to you? Jesus is still offering this gift of the water of life. In Revelation John wrote what Jesus said to him and to all who believe the offer. The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life. (Revelation 22:17). Have you decided to “take the free gift of the water of life?” John wrote another comment from Jesus while He still walked this earth. The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. (John 6:63). Here Jesus is speaking of the eternal life which all members of mankind possess. God created mankind is His image, which of course refers to our immortal soul not just our earthly life.
Moses wrote the creation account to express how life came about the first time when God/Jesus was creating all the creatures that live on this earth. This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created. When the LORD God made the earth and the heavens—and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no man to work the ground, but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground—the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. (Genesis 2:4-7). This “breath of life,” does not refer to our immortal soul, as all the creatures that live on the land have this same “breath of life.” And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was so. (Genesis 1:30)
Our immortal soul was given to us by being created in the image and likeness of God. Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." (Genesis 1:26). This is also why God trusted us to be put in charge of all the other creatures created to live on the earth. The evolutionary theory does not know how life started and it professes mankind became the top of the food chain by massive deaths for millions of years. You must admit this is a more sensible story and gives the glory to the God of the Bible!
Think about being put in charge by God, when you celebrate Labor Day on Monday. When Methuselah died the Flood started! And after he became the father of Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Methuselah lived 969 years, and then he died. When Lamech had lived 182 years, he had a son. He named him Noah and said, "He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the LORD has cursed." (Genesis 5:26-29). God had another plan for Noah! God has a plan for you!
