Jesus Said, “Do To Others As You Would Have Them Do To You.”
Hebrews 7:25 (NIV)
Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
Jesus came to this earth to die for your sins, so that although you are still a sinner, He will continue to intercede for you with God the Father. This intercession will continue until you die, and then Jesus will come and take you to where He is. When you arrive there, in heaven, it is said you will be seen by God the Father, and you will look like Jesus to Him! As the selected verse states, Jesus “is able to save completely those who come to God through him.” None of us, who follow Jesus, need to worry about when we will die, “because (Jesus) always lives to intercede for them (us).” What an amazing promise this is, when you consider we are still sinners! Followers of Jesus are of course, expected to attempt to stop sinning. We are taught to work on becoming more Christ-like every day for the rest of our life. However, we still live in a sin-cursed world, in which Satan and his demons are allowed to roam about and tempt everyone to be attracted by sinful acts and things.
Paul wrote about this transition of all those who accept salvation through Christ Jesus. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. (2Corinthians 17-19). Paul terms it, “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” This change causes those who have been saved to become attracted to different paths in their lives. We are less apt to be attracted to worldly sin opportunities. Many of us even change so we are now attracted to different people that we desire to associate with and have as friends. Have you experienced this type of change in your life? Even when we fail to stop sinning in some ways, Paul assures us of a wonderful concept about God’s reconciliation for believers, it says, “God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them.” Not counting my sins against me sounds really good to me!
Paul wrote about this love God has for all members of mankind, which caused God to send His Son to die for us, while we were still enemies of God. God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! (Romans 5:8, 10). Notice what Paul wrote about how God loves us first, while we are still sinners. God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Jesus died to cover over your sins, while you were still setting yourself up as His enemy! Even if you consider God an enemy, God considers you as a potential loved one, and Jesus will bring you into the family of God, as a child of God. If you believe, then God will accept you as you are, and He will recreate you, so to speak, as Paul wrote, “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” If you allow it, you will be changed immediately from a soul that was lost, and headed to hell, into a soul that has been saved for eternity, and will eventually live with Jesus in heaven!
Yes, salvation is immediate, and you are changed immediately, however, you still must remain on this cursed world until Jesus comes to take to where He is! Paul wrote about this change and how we can change or allow Jesus to change us to be able to conquer the worldly temptations we will experience even after our immortal soul has been saved from going to hell, when we die. No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:37-39). Accepting salvation through Jesus Christ causes God the Father to begin to view us being His child. It also allows you (us) to start transforming yourself to becoming more Christ-like every day, for the rest of your life.
So, what is the major thing we need to do to become more Christ-like? It seems easy in some ways, but then it may also be very difficult! When Jesus still walked this cursed earth, He taught His disciples about loving other members of mankind. In one such teaching session, Jesus said, So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:12). Jesus here is stating a difficult way of looking at the members of mankind who are now in this world, with us (you) today. Jesus says, “in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.” This attitude would allow for NO bullying and there could be NO raciest attitudes, and NO excuse for mistreating anyone who intentionally offends you. Remember, Jesus also told us we must love those who chose to be our enemies. Jesus said it is easy to love those who love you, “But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.” (Luke 6:35)
So, to be sons and daughters of the Most High God we are expected by Jesus to treat all members of mankind as though they are your friends. Jesus told His disciples that this kind of an attitude is to be understood from the Old Testament teaching, when Jesus said,” for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” So, even before Jesus came to this earth and lived and then died as the perfect sacrifice, we should have learned to love one another from studying the Old Testament. Jesus promises a reward if we can do our best to love every member of mankind. Remember, all members of mankind were created in the image and likeness of God. Just one more reminder of what Jesus said about how to treat other people. Jesus said, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” (Luke 6:31)
