This Is A Good Time To Help Someone Become A Disciple Of Jesus And Be Set Free!
Genesis 1:1-5 (NIV)
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night". And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
This week there was a debate held to argue the virtues of whether everything we see and/or everything related to life on this planet came about either through nothing (evolution) or it was created by the God of the Bible! Actually the “nothing” in the sentence above could be emphasized as “itself” instead of nothing, but in the selected verses above, is stated the beginning of something, but in the evolutionary theory there can be nothing immediately before the Big Bang occurred, because this theory is only needed if there is no God! If you are an atheist there can be nothing that existed before everything came about by its own power!
An atheist is a person who believes there is no God or gods that ever existed, thus nothing could have existed before the universe came into existence on its own power. But how does nothing have power? That there is only one God is in my opinion, the only plausible answer as to how everything that exists in the sphere of consciousness came into being. Can nothing create itself from nothing? What do you think? As you can likely tell from these comments, I am what is termed a Young Earth Creationist!
Not all people who profess to be a Christian believes the above statements, because they have been convinced that the earth is very old, even as much as 4.6 billion years old, and the universe is even older, as much as 14 to 18 billion years old. What do you believe? The biggest problem you have as a Christian is that if the universe did get created by God billions of years ago, is that then you must eliminate all of the Scriptures from Genesis 1:1 through Genesis 10:32 and likely through chapter 11, as the geologies following Noah start this chapter. If you are one of these Christians, what chapters do you believe are accurate after that? Doing this you have eliminated the chapters about Adam and Eve, and thus you have death before sin, as evolution says animals were dying for millions of years before Adam and Eve sinned! Or in their terms, until an animal evolved into a human being!
If you do not believe there was a place called the Garden of Eden as described in the early Genesis verses, then why do you believe there will be a place like that described throughout the rest of the Bible, and most specifically in the book of Revelation, which is said to mirror the Garden of Eden, where the earth is again a place where there is no sin, thus no death and suffering!
If your world view is based on evolution, then you believe there has always been death and suffering, and human beings are just another animal. This belief allows us to copout on our sin, by blaming the animal within for our bad behavior! You do not have this copout ability, if you believe as the Bible states you were created as male and female, and in the image and likeness of God/Jesus! When Jesus walked this earth He made statements that evidence He believed in the creation account in the Bible. When asked about being able to divorce your spouse, Jesus told part of the creation story. "But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female’. ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." (Mark 10:6-9)
Notice Jesus reply starts with the derivative from the very first verse of the Bible. Jesus’ statement here indicates He has NOT allowed for the evolutionary process, as He says, “"at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.” It appears from this statement that Jesus believed that the Scriptures are accurate from the very first verse! Now what do you believe? The psalmist wrote about being joyful in this world, and how to obtain it. Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the Lord. (Psalm 119:1, NLT) If you select which parts of God’s Word to believe can you ever really be following Jesus lead for your life? Be joyful by following all of God’s Word, not just the verses you like.
If you are a practicing Young Earth Creationist, now would be a good time to try to explain why you believe what you believe to other people who attend the church of your choice. Jesus told His disciples and everyone else who would listen about being “set free” and thus you will then, “know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
John wrote what Jesus said about being or becoming one of His disciples. To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." They answered him, "We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?" Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it for ever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (John 8:31-36)
This is your chance to “Do to others as you would like them to do to you. (Luke 6:31, NLT) This is a good time to really help someone to become a disciple of Jesus and be set free!
The debate referenced above was about 2 ½ hours long, and is titled “Bill Nye Debates Ken Ham“ it can be listened to on YouTube for some period of time, the time period is unknown to me. It can be purchased on DVD from the AnswersinGenesis.org website. Also there is a follow-up discussion available on this web site. It can be found on the Internet by just typing in the title “Bill Nye Debates Ken Ham.”
