There Are People On This Earth Who Have Not Yet Been Changed From A Sinner Going To Hell To A Sinner Going To Heaven!
Matthew 2:1-2 (NIV)
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him."
People continue to seek some method of finding their salvation in this world, and most of them are looking to some member of mankind to point them in the right direction. Some people seek peace through imbibing in alcohol or now legal recreational drugs. Hundreds of people die on our highways each year because of such habits, so in effect this method allows lots of people to die and presumably go to heaven. I just heard of recent programs instituted to supply places for people to come and shoot-up their drugs and have people there to give them safe clean drug paraphernalia so they will not become infected by reusing old items. Then there are people there to administer a lifesaving shot, if/when these people overdose, so they do not die. Many of the people interviewed had overdosed many times and had been brought back to life with a drug created to resuscitate them.
This process seems to be created to allow people to abuse themselves and society has decided they cannot be helped to learn there is a better lifestyle, so we should just abet their choices and help them to continue to survive so they can continue to suffer. This sounds like the description of the immortal souls of sinners continuing to exist in hell! Hopefully, such places try to council they people to kick their drug habit, and learn to cope with this sin cursed world, and become happier with themselves. If everyone would come to believe that a Savior has come into this world, and offers them a peaceful attitude, they could then be able to worship Him.
The word habit often gets a bad rap as we usually think of habits, we think of bad routines we develop. So, from now on in this commentary let us think of habits being good routines for us to start or maybe continue into this new year. Likely most people reading this have at least some gray hairs, or it would have, if you did not have it touched up. So, then let us think about trying to form some new habits this year, which will result in allowing us to guide people toward Jesus Christ. Even when I am old and grey, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come. (Psalm 71:18). In the Old Testament times since the Savior had not yet come into this world, believers would try to direct people toward God.
Today, we are told that believers need to direct people toward Jesus Christ. In fact, we are told that we are to be ambassadors of Jesus Christ. When we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, we are immediately changed from a sinner heading to hell to a sinner heading toward heaven. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:17-21).
At the start of a new year many people will make some resolutions to adopt new habits in this coming year, starting on the first day of this new era. Most such resolutions do not last because people do not make them habitual, so we fail to continue them through that coming year. This is one such habit that needs to be habitual and last through the whole year. Some resolutions are short term, as whatever thing you want to accomplish can be completed in less than a year. However, this resolution is a lifetime habit, and it must be maintained by worshipping with likeminded believers through this coming year. This new or renewed habit is to really take seriously the fact that you must be ambassadors for Jesus Christ.
This is a lifetime, lifesaving, commitment that every true follower of Jesus Christ must make. If you already made this commitment, then the new year gives us all the ability to increase our commitment to be a better ambassador for Jesus Christ. If you have already made this commitment, then you can know that your immortal soul is going to heaven when you leave this mortal world. However, there are people on this earth who have not yet been changed from a sinner going to hell to a sinner going to heaven! Can you, can we, tell them about Jesus Christ, in this new year? Now that is the best habit to adopt or renew in this coming new year.
It has rightly been said that the only two things that will last for eternity are people and the Word of God. These things must occupy our attention if we are to be effective “ambassadors for Christ.” Do you feel inadequate in your Biblical knowledge to be able to tell someone about Jesus Christ? Remember , what you need to tell someone is how having Jesus in your life as changed you into a new creation, and into a sinner going to heaven! Please believe it Jesus died for your sins and thus, paid the Way for you to go to heaven when you leave this cursed world!
Someone may ask how can I go to heaven when I die? Here is the answer! Jesus Christ told His disciples, and us, that everyone must follow Him to become sinners going to heaven. There is no other Way! Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:5-6). Therefore, Jesus Christ had to come to this earth, as the Son of man, as the perfect sacrifice.
Another good habit to start is to read the Bible through during this new year. Reading it through in Chronological order is, I believe, the best way. I can tell you about a guide to use, so you can use your favorite translation, and just use the guide to mark off each days reading to complete it during this new year. You can probably find one to print on the Internet.
Wishing You and Your Loved Ones,
Happy New Year!
