From A Biblical Worldview, Abortion Is Murder!
Matthew 19:14 (NIV)
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
From a biblical worldview, abortion is murder! Scripture teaches we’re fearfully and wonderfully made. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. (Psalms 139:14). It teaches we are known by God before we’re born. "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." (Jeremiah 1:5). It says we were made in his image! So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27). Taking the life of someone made in God’s image (right from conception) is murder, and it is serious in God’s sight Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man. (Genesis 9:6). The writer of Proverbs wrote about things that God hates. There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, (Proverbs 6:16–17).
When Jesus still walked this earth, He welcomed the little children. Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." (Matthew 19:14), and Jesus said we must become like them to enter the kingdom of heaven! And he said: I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 18:3). God does not look lightly on the slaughter of millions of those little ones. Since 1972 when abortion became legal in the USA, there have been over 60 million American citizens who have been murdered through abortion!
When Jesus was born into this world, his earthly father was concerned about what other people would think about his wife who had become pregnant before they were legally married! Joseph thought about divorcing her privately to save his embarrassment. It makes one wonder if abortion would have been a legal option, what would Joseph decided to do. Would Joseph have decided to have Jesus aborted? Now the woman who is pregnant is allowed to decide the baby’s fate, but back then the husband or man could have decided such a thing! Remember Mary’s confusion about her becoming pregnant, without having had a sexual act involved! "How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?" The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. For nothing is impossible with God." (Luke 1:34-35, and 37). Of course, Mary believed her impending pregnancy was a blessing from God. It is too bad that so many women who have voluntarily been involved in a sexual act, and thus, become pregnant consider the resulting pregnancy to be a curse instead of a blessing from God!
The seventh commandment states "You shall not kill”. (Exodus 20:13, RSV). Many of the newer Bible translations show this command from God to read, "You shall not murder.” (Exodus 20:13, NIV). It seems more expressive to me that we read this command from God as "You shall not kill”. This term seems more inclusive to me, as it places a better emphasis on the value of life, and every life is very important to God. Many people today do not really place as much value on the life of all members of mankind! In fact, the abortion industry places very little value on the God given life of unborn babies. They refuse to even refer to the God created unborn baby as a baby, they like to use the term of fetus instead. This allows them to not consider a fetus as being a forming human being! I do not believe God feels this way! What do you think? No one can question the fact that, if nourishment is supplied by the potential mother of the fetus within her given time it will become a member of God’s group called mankind! The baby may not be perfect when it is born, as actually none of us are perfect! However, this baby will be a human being, as God has designed this process! Each baby born is in fact a miracle!
In the USA today it is legal to kill an unborn baby by aborting it, and the law of the land says it is okay, and some people who approve of this action would say doing so in not murder it is just killing an unwanted fetus! They may even say it could be okay with God as it is not considered murder, so they are not in conflict with the seventh commandment which state, "You shall not murder.” Do you believe this killing of a developing human baby is actually okay with Jesus? I prefer reading the seventh commandment as "You shall not kill”. This command is referring to killing any member of God’s group known by God as mankind. Killing an animal is never considered as murder! Killing a human being is only considered murder, when it is done on purpose, not as the result of an accident. Aborting a human fetus is not done accidentally, thus it should be considered as a murder!
Jesus was born into this world as an imperfect member of mankind too! Yes, Jesus was a human baby, and He would grow into a member of mankind, however, He was also the Son of God. If Jesus was being born into this world now, if Mary believed in Pro-Choice would she decide to abort the fetus that was developing in her? Yes, this is a far-fetched idea, but it makes one wonder what fetuses have been aborted and thus stopped the development of someone who would done great things in the life that was ended by murdering him or her in the womb? God told us how important each human being is in His eyes, and what punishment is in store for those who kill a human being. Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man. (Genesis 9:6). This Bible verse if likely one of those that was used to come up with the idea of capital punishment to require the death penalty for the crime of murder.
John wrote about how all of mankind is considered by God to be His children. As we read earlier in this commentary God knows us even before we are born into this world. And yet, God calls all the members of mankind to become children of God, by accepting His Son as their Savior. How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother. (1John 3:1-2 and 10).
