What Do You Choose Not To Believe?
Acts 2:13 (NIV)
Some, however, made fun of them and said, "They have had too much wine."
Last week Christians celebrated Pentecost Sunday, which is considered by many as the start of the Christian faith. Most of those reading this are very familiar with this story of how the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles, and then how they were able to speak, and all those hearing them, heard them in their own language. Many different people were present at this amazing event, and many different languages were represented there. This was truly a miracle, and yet, some who witnessed this amazing event, made fun of them and said, "They have had too much wine."
Can you even imagine such a comment being made? If you heard someone speak who you knew could not speak English, but you heard what they said in fluent English, would you think they did it because they were drunk?
From the very beginning of time, we have always questioned God, as to His motives, and we continue to do so. When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. (Genesis 3:6). Adam and Eve committed the very first sin, because they took the word of someone else instead of believing God!
After Jesus arose from the dead and had appeared to most of the Apostles, Thomas would still not believe their testimony! So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord But he said to them, "Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it." (John 20:25). Because of this lack of belief, a phrase was coined, "Doubting Thomas." I wonder what you or I would do in the same circumstance. Do you believe He actually rose from the dead? Billions of people still do not believe it!
The Eleven Apostles went to a mountain and witnessed Jesus ascending to heaven, and after they saw this amazing miracle, Matthew wrote about it, and said some of them doubted. When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted. (Matthew 28:17). "But some doubted," can you believe that seeing Jesus ascend into heaven, would leave you standing there looking up into the clouds, and you would have some doubt? These men lived with Jesus for three years, and saw many, many, miracles He performed, and then witnessed His ascend into heaven, "but some doubted." Give me a break!
Peter once walked on the water! A mere man once walked on the water! Did you get that, a mere man once walked on the water! Yes, of course, so did Jesus, but He was not a mere man! "Come," he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came towards Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!" (Matthew 14:29-30). Can you walk on water? You can if Jesus calls you to do it! However, if your faith fails, then YOU will sink! Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?" (Matthew 14:31). What do YOU choose to believe?
His Word is truth! Everything else you will ever read is only the opinion of a man or of some men. Remember billions on men do not believe Jesus is the Son of God, and they do not accept Him as their Savior. Read the Bible daily, and believe what you read! What do YOU choose NOT to believe!
This short version of the VOW was written in 2005, and I decided to resend it today.
