Are There Multiple Paths That End Up In Heaven With God?
1 Corinthians 3:11 (NIV)
For no-one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Many people today believe that God should or even MUST honor whatever religion someone selects, and if they follow it religiously, then they MUST end up in heaven when they die! A famous entertainer had many followers because in part she espoused that there could not be only one way to attain a great reward when they die, if they just followed what their chosen religion dictated for them to do. Therefore, if they followed their god or gods, then they were destined to go to a great reward when they died. What do you believe? MUST god accept your choice of whom you will follow in this lifetime? These people usually say well there is only one god, so we are all trying to follow the same god!
No, in the paragraph above using god was not a typographical error! Please also note the gods reference. Yes it is true some people still honor multiple gods, so MUST God also honor their religion too, and thus, take them to be with Him in heaven when they die? Did Jesus Christ come to this earth and live as the Son of Man, and the Son of God? If He did then there is only one God, and that God is the God of the Bible. Therefore, the God I choose to follow is the God of the Bible, and I believe He is the only God there is.
This triune God has a Son, who is also God, and there is a Holy Spirit that is part of this triune God. Other worldly religions follow a god that does not have a son, and that does not claim to also include a holy spirit! MUST the true God honor those people who follow their chosen religion and accept them into heaven when they die to be there with Him for all eternity? Is that what you believe? Is the Bible the only true book that God revealed to the men who wrote it? I believe it is! Therefore, my responses are always meant to follow the guidance offered by the Bible. What does the Bible say about this claim that there are many gods that have a say so in the salvation of all of mankind?
The selected verse indicates there is only one foundation upon which any religion can be built. For no-one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. The big question for all of mankind to answer may be is God required to honor other foundations, which are laid by any member of mankind? Did God really create everything from nothing, as I believe? This is really important, what do you believe? Is God a personal God or is It some eternal force that could care less about you? Yes, I meant to type “It” in describing this god!
Mark captured for us one thing Jesus said about this God, and emphasizes what Jesus believed about His God, and whether we should love Him. "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these." (Mark 12:29-31) Jesus was referring here to Deuteronomy 6:4-9, which was to be recited twice each day by the Israelites as a means to remember loving God, and passing that message on to their children. Are you passing on to your children, daily, why they should believe in and love the God of the Bible?
Note in the above verses that Jesus did not just indicate we MUST love our Father God, but also of next importance we are to honor this second command “The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” If you truly love your neighbor, and they are honoring another god, then you should try to warn them of their impending fate. Be wise in the way you act towards outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. (Colossians 4:5-6) Paul wrote to Timothy about using the Bible as his guide to teaching those who have gone astray, or are just new to the faith in Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
What did Jesus have to say about there being multiple ways to go to heaven? Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:5-6) Does “No-one comes to the Father except through me,” give you the idea that God MUST allow any member of mankind to go to heaven by some other means? Could God allow other people to go to heaven, yes of course He could, but His Word says NO!
Paul wrote about this honoring of Jesus by God The Father to the church in Philippi, and us. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:8-11) Every knee will eventually bow; this would include every member of mankind, even the leaders of all earthly churches.
Paul wrote to the church in Rome about this grace being offered to all sinners also known as members of mankind, through God because of what Jesus did for us all. For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. (Romans 5:10-11)
If we really love our neighbor as ourselves, and they are not following Jesus Christ, then we MUST tell them about Jesus, as He commanded while He was still living on this earth as the Son of Man and the Son of God, otherwise they will end up in hell, when they leave this lifetime. Here is that command. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:18-20)
