Everything You Ever Did Or Will Ever Do Is Accomplished In A Today!
John 14:4-7(NIV)
You know the way to the place where I am going." Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."
Some people will tell you that Jesus did not claim to be the Son of God when He walked this earth as a man. In the selected verses Jesus claims to His disciples that He is the Son of God, and that He is also one of the three persons of God! Jesus is also saying in these verses that He is the only Way for any member of mankind to go to heaven when they die. Jesus says that if you know Him, then you also know God the Father who is in heaven! Of course, we just once again celebrated the birth of Jesus as a human baby, who came to this earth not as a ruler, but as a member of an earthly family that was very common, not in any way a part of earthly royalty! Not what most people would expect for the Son of God to do. So, now what do you believe about who Jesus Christ really is? The Christmas season is ending, but does the celebration of the birth of the Christ child end the celebration?
As we start a new year will you end your celebration now, and make some resolutions about how you plan to enhance your earthly existence, OR will you take these new days to enhance your knowledge of who Jesus Christ really is, NOT who He was but who He is, because we know/believe He not only lived as a man but He also died as a man, BUT then He rose from the dead and then after 40 days, went back to heaven. The pattern Jesus set as an example of what every member of mankind will also complete! Yes, it is true YOU will someday die to this life, but your immortal soul will survive, and where it lives is up to you. Only you can know the Way to heaven by first knowing who Jesus Christ is and believing He is the only Way to heaven. If you believe, then Jesus will come and take your immortal soul with Him to heaven immediately when you die! Talk about a lifetime guarantee this one insures you forever! When you first believed in Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior you were immediately enrolled in the lifetime/eternal guarantee!
When Jesus walked this earth as a member of mankind, He often quoted Scripture to those who doubted He was who He said He was. A couple of examples of this are included in this commentary, the first one is found in Matthew. Jesus was talking to some of the religious leaders of His days on this earth. "What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?" "The son of David," they replied. He said to them, "How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord’? For he says, "‘The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet."’ If then David calls him ‘Lord’, how can he be his son?" (Mathew 22:42-45). Jesus was quoting Psalm 110 in this discussion, Of David. A psalm. The LORD says to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." (Psalm 110:1). The Jews were expecting a human leader to free them from earthly bondage not to free them from eternal bondage.
The second example is from the Gospel of John. "We are not stoning you for any of these," replied the Jews, "but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God." Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are gods’? If he called them ‘gods’, to whom the word of God came—and the Scripture cannot be broken—what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’? (John 10:33-36). The Jews were threatening to stone Jesus to death, because He had claimed to be the Son of God. Then Jesus quoted Psalm 82, which states that mankind was created by God and thus we are considered by God to be his sons as members of mankind. "I said, ‘You are "gods"; you are all sons of the Most High.’ (Psalm 82:6). Remember we are considered by God to be His children! All those who recognize Jesus Christ to be the Son of God are changed from being destined to go to hell to be considered His children. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. (John 1:11-13). Have you been born again? If you are not sure a great resolution for this year would be to try to determine your soul’s eternal destination when you leave this earth!
God has revealed to mankind the so-called secrets of the universe, and had mankind live through some training experiences, and then, He had them assemble this information into a book, we call the Bible. This is NOT a sacred book or holy book, as some men have assembled through the inspiration of Satan. Other worldly religions have a guide book which they base their faith on, and such books give instructions on what those who follow it must do for them to go to a better place when they die. As was stated by Jesus, and used in this commentary as the selected verses, there is only one book available on this earth which contains the absolute truth and tells us that Jesus Christ is the only Way by which mankind can be saved and go to heaven when we die! Christianity is the only religion that offers an absolute guarantee of salvation, as salvation does not come through any works or good deeds a member of mankind can perform in their lifetime. It is guaranteed by what Jesus did, NOT by anything we can do in the lifetime!
The only requirement for salvation is that we believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, the promised Messiah! Yes, we just celebrated His birth into this world, but we know the rest of the story, because His story (history), as recorded in the Bible, tells us all we need to know for us to go to heaven when we die! A great resolution for this year would be to take the time to study the Scriptures! A new year is not required for us to resolve to do something, but it does give us a good reason to resolve to improve ourselves in some way(s). However, everything you ever did or will ever do is accomplished in a today! Therefore, if you are going to do something new, you need to start it today!
Jesus knew we would have trouble because of the temptations of this world, and because we would think we are too busy with life in general to truly study His Word, so He left the Holy Spirit behind to help us understand what we hear and read about Him. It all starts with loving Jesus because of what He did for you, when He died for your sins. Jesus once said, He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. "All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (John 14:24-26). Listen to this Holy Spirit and learn starting today!
Wishing you all a
Happy New Year!
