What A Friend And Brother We Have In Jesus!
Colossians 3:4 (NIV)
When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
The glorious future prepared by God for His people is too amazing for most people to believe. Do you believe that a place in heaven has been prepared for you? Caution must be applied here, as this statement is only true if you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that He died for your sins, as the perfect sacrifice required by Father God! Many people still believe they can be good enough to somehow earn a place in heaven when they die in this cursed world! What do you believe about this somewhat mysterious plan that God devised for allowing salvation for sinful creatures as we are?
In the selected verse Paul wrote about this wonderful promise God gives to those indwelled by Jesus/the Holy Spirit, “When Christ, who is your life, appears then you also will appear with him in glory.” This will occur if Christ is the center of your life? As the promise continues, “then you also will appear with him in glory.” Are you alive through Christ? Mankind’s sinful nature separates us from a Holy, Holy, Holy God! The only Way around this spiritual problem is through the grace offered by allowing yourself to be indwelt by the Holy Spirit/Jesus.
When God’s chosen people failed to recognize Him as the Messiah, then the Gentiles were chosen to receive the opportunity to claim Jesus as their Savior. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. (Colossians 1:27). All that is required for attaining salvation is for us to have faith and believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and then, to follow Him. Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. (Romans 5:1-2). Our faith allows us to be happier in this world, knowing that our faith will save us, when we leave this cursed world.
When we believe in Jesus, we become children of God, brothers, and sisters, in Christ. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. (Romans 8:17-18). As it says, “our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” While this does not mean we should not be concerned with suffering in this world, both ours and others, knowing that our future is being planned by God, we can be happier in this life. Our mortal body is a temporary vessel designed by God for living in this world.
Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. (1 Corinthians 1:7). While we remain on this cursed earth, we can be happier as we believe our long-range future is being prepared for us by Jesus Christ. During this lifetime we are blessed by God with the essentials of life. If we receive more than the minimum requirements, we should be willing to share with others who are suffering, as a way of pleasing God. Jesus said, In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16). We are to be examples of how Jesus acted when He walked this earth as a man, so that we would bring glory to God. As Jesus says, you should “let your light shine before men?” This is not an easy task for us, as we do not always feel that we are abundantly blessed. If we look around our world it is easy to see others who are very needy!
The writer of Hebrews tries to explain how Jesus’ perfect sacrifice required Him to suffer greatly before leaving this cursed world. In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering. (Hebrews 2:10). Jesus became perfect through His acceptance of the need for Him to suffer and die for all of mankind, so that we can receive forgiveness and acceptance by God the Father. This perfect sacrifice paved the Way for us to be granted forgiveness of all our sins.
Paul wrote about this wonderful plan of salvation from this cursed world and acceptance into heaven when our soul leaves our earthly body and goes to our final award of being with Him. So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. (1 Corinthians 15:42-44). Your spiritual body will live forever with Jesus in heaven. Now that is great promise from God.
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. (2 Corinthians 4:17). Okay, maybe your life is not always an easy road to travel, but the awarding of heaven for believers is certainly worth the wait! Life is good, when you believe that there is a time coming when your life will be spent with Jesus forever, in a place too wonderful to imagine for us now. What a friend and brother we have in Jesus!
