Can You Tell Someone About This True Love From Jesus?
1 Corinthians 1:20 (NIV)
Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
Most of the people of this earth today do not believe that Jesus Christ is the only one who offers salvation for your immortal soul! Many people do not believe that Jesus Christ was ever a real person who lived on this earth. Many people do not believe there is a God as defined in the Bible. What do you believe about books written by such people? When you read a book other than the Bible do you realize that the person who wrote it may not be influenced by a belief in the God of the Bible! There are many worldly gods being held in awe by people who do not believe in the true God, they believe in a god that their worldly religion points them toward. If you have studied the Bible you can identify where a book written by a mere man will diverge from what the Bible plainly teaches. I believe the Bible is the only book available on this earth that is inspired and revealed by the One True and only God! What do you believe? As the selected verses pose the question, “Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?”
Of course, reading books written by members of mankind are very important, but it is very important that as a follower of Jesus Christ, it is a MUST that you have studied His Word, AKA the Holy Bible! Do not miss this part of this commentaries message, you must not just read your Bible, you MUST study it. If you do this solely on your own, then you are limiting your knowledge to just your opinion about your Bible study. It is important that you learn other perspectives to your amassed knowledge. This can be accomplished by joining a Bible Study at the church of your choice! You could also join a Bible study that meets during the week so you can find the time to attend it!
Paul wrote about this problem of identifying worldly teaching that may be contained in books written by people who are confused about what is truth in their mind, but does not line up with the absolute truth as found in the Bible. See to it that no-one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. (Colossians 2:8). Is the writer of a book you are about to read knowledgeable of Biblical truth, or are they writing about earthly ideas and from a worldly perspective, which as Paul wrote, “takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy.”
Paul also wrote to Timothy who was young and early in his ministry to be careful about what you hear or read that is based on worldly knowledge or belief. O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen. (1 Timothy 6:20-21, AV). In our world today we are being inundated with the evolutionary theory as being fact. Although there is no real evidence that evolution has occurred, and no evidence that it is possible! Paul told Timothy and us, to avoid “profane and vain babblings, oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith.” Here Paul is telling us to avoid teaching that do not measure up to God’s Word! The Bible teaches that God created everything from nothing, nothing came about on its own by random chance errors!
What about you are you following the latest ideas presented by mere men about how and when this mortal world came to be? Do you remain a worldly person? You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarrelling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men? (1 Corinthians 3:3). In our world today we see violence occur when people do not get their own way. We see looting and burning down businesses of people who have nothing to do with what the mobs are proclaiming. It becomes obvious that such actions are not carried on by people who love their neighbor, as the Bible teaches. Many people march against hate and then these same people display hateful schemes and blatantly destroy other people’s property, and even kill those people who may agree with their pleas for what they believe to be justice.
Titus wrote about how people can be changed by coming to salvation through following Jesus Christ. He starts off with how we were before claiming our salvation. At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. (Titus 3:3-7).
Do you possess this peaceful attitude gained “when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us,” not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy,” “so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.” The hope of knowing you have eternal life does not remove all the problems of this world, but it does help make our worldly troubles less destructive to maintaining a happier view of life. Solomon recognized how people will envy what others have, which seems unfair to those who have not. And I saw that all labor and all achievement spring from man’s envy of his neighbor. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. (Ecclesiastes 4:4). Unfortunately envy still rears its ugly head in our world today, especially to those who have not been born again.
God warned His people many years ago and gave them the Ten Commandments as a pattern for living in this cursed world. The tenth commandment teaches us not to covet or envy what someone else has. "You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor." (Exodus 20:17). There are people in this world today that chose to not abide by these commands, or who do not know about them. Many such people choose to not work to earn their way in life, and then, they envy what others have. Many people feel entitled to have wealth without feeling a need to work to earn the stuff they want We have lost the idea of having respect for other people and for their right to own things. We all share in this problem to some extent, but again, if we believe we have been rescued from this world by Jesus Christ our Savior, we can usually control our envy to not become dangerous to others.
If we all had love for each other as we are all members of mankind, and Jesus died to save us all, then we could be happier and more willing to help those who need our help in this life. Paul wrote about love and how perfect love, as we all have available from God, and how suck Godly love works. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. (1 Corinthians 13:4). Can you tell someone about this true love from Jesus?
