Nothing In All Creation, Will Be Able To Separate Us From The Love Of God That Is In Christ Jesus Our Lord.
2 Samuel 12:9 (NIV)
Why did you despise the word of the LORD by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites.
In the selected verse, we see the result of King David allowing lust to control his life, and caused him to defile the throne that God had awarded him, because God believed David would follow Him in righteousness. God allowed David, and allows us, to have a freewill, which will sometimes lead us into sinful situations. While David was basically a good person, he allowed worldly things to control his life, and his greed caused him to take whatever he wanted, even stuff that belonged to someone else. As king of Israel he had the power to do so! To read this verse in context see 2 Samuel 12:1-12.
This is the same David that the writer of the book of Acts wrote about in glowing terms. After removing Saul, he made David their king. He testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’ From this man’s descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised. (Acts 13:22-23). God had referred to David as, “a man after my own heart.” God also knew that David would accomplish important leadership of His people, when God stated, “he will do everything I want him to do.” Please do not be confused here, this commentary is not trying to project some idea about any confusion on God’s part. It always seems to me, that God can allow a freewill, but He always remains in control. God also always remains loving despite any failure of mankind.
James tried to capture this understanding of how God handles the failures of mankind without condemnation, if the offender is willing to learn from their mistakes, and thus, willing to repent. Please remember that in relation to God/Jesus we are NOT good! When tempted, no-one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. (James 1:13-14)
Because of our sinful nature inherited from the Fall of Man, when Adam committed that first sin, we are considered by God to be evil. Therefore, God cast Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden. Mankind is often confused about our status with a Holy, Holy, Holy God. We want to consider ourselves as being good, when in fact in God’s eyes we are evil. When we openly wonder why God allows evil to exist in this world–we are His answer in that despite being evil in His sight–God still loves us. Paul wrote about our situation of still being sinners, but God overlooked this, and in fact, therefore, God had to send His Son to die for us. God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8).
God created us out of His holiness to be perfect, and we were, until Adam through his freewill decided to disobey God. John wrote about this wonderful view of the Holy, Holy, Holy God! This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. (1 John 1:5-10).
Please remember that all the members of mankind are sinners, because we have a sinful nature. Because of this nature we can and do commit sins of both omission and commission. None of us is above sinning! However, if you are a Christian you know that through the shed blood of Christ Jesus we can be changed, and become a new creation. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (2Corinthians 5:17)
We have just completed the most heinous political campaign in our history, and the person selected to be our new President may not be our ideal selection, even if we voted for him. However, please also know that we could not have chosen any member of mankind whether male or female who is perfect, because we all have the stain of a sinful nature to deal with. As Christians, we now need to pray for this new leader that he may be convicted through the Holy Spirit, and be recreated and thus repent of his sins, and start to lead this once great country, and thus inspire us to become “Great Again!”
Pray that God will forgive us for killing over 55,000,000 future USA citizens through abortion on demand! Our country is very divided today, please pray that some of those divisions can be corrected soon. Do your part by trying to love your neighbor as yourself, and try your best to love those who have decided to be your enemy, because that is what Jesus would do! Please also remember God loves all of us, and that we are all sinners. Paul wrote about how Jesus loves all of mankind, and that Godly love will never end. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)
Nothing in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
