Standing On The Promises Of Christ My King!
John 14:2-3 (NIV)
In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
Are you standing on the promises of Jesus Christ, as we go through some difficult times in 2020? Jesus came into this cursed world to free mankind from the worry about how we can save our immortal soul, when we die and leave this mortal lifetime. We can know our soul has been saved by what Jesus Christ did for us by dying on a cross, then rising from the dead to prove that the dead in Christ will rise again. Then He told His disciples about the fact that as He said “In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.” So, we can know that we have been guaranteed there is a place being prepared for us in heaven when we leave this mortal life. Not only is there a place for us, but Jesus is coming back to take us to where He is. This relieves us from the worry about doing good deeds in order to work our way to heaven, so we can concentrate on doing good deeds, because we are free of worry, if we did enough good deeds to get into heaven before we die.
That is enough about death, now let us think about the freedom, we must give glory to God for sending Jesus to save us from our sinful nature. In Isaiah we read about how God created this world specific for mankind for a place to dwell during our mortal lifetime. For this is what the LORD says—he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited—he says: "I am the LORD, and there is no other.” (Isaiah 45:18). The reason we were created was for us to give all the glory to God. Had Adam and Eve not committed that first sin, we could still be living in a perfect world, as it was originally created. We now must wait for the new perfect world to be created for all those who have chosen to follow Jesus on this cursed world.
Jesus made some other promises to His disciples when He still walked on this earth. One of these promises was a conditional promise. We are required to acknowledge Jesus to other members of mankind to gain His promise to act as our ambassador to God. Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven. (Matthew 10:32-33). Note the importance of the need for you to tell others about who Jesus is to you! More importantly, note what awaits those who disown Jesus to others in this life. Jesus says, “whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.”
Jesus once asked His disciples who they thought He was, as some people had been speculating who they thought Jesus might be. "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. (Matthew 16:15-17). Who do you believe Jesus is to you? Hopefully, prayerfully you agree with Simon Peter, as he had identified who Jesus is! Remember, it is required for you to tell other people who you know Jesus to be.
Those of us on this earth who choose to follow Jesus will become children of God. Jesus told us we must try to fulfill the will of God during our lifetime. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother." (Matthew 12:50). As Jesus promises we will all became members of His family when we accepted His offer of salvation through grace. Are you trying to follow the will of God in your life? Remember, you are not working to gain salvation, Jesus already paid that price in your stead!
Is Jesus talking about your guardian angel when He refers to children, since we are children of God? Is He referring to us as these children? See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven. (Matthew 18:10). It seems joyful to think that we all have a guardian angel that looks out for us. Maybe this is bit childish to think this way, but it gives us a good feeling about how God has instructed His angels to be messengers between Him and mankind. The writer of Hebrews made an interesting observation about entertaining angles. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. (Hebrews 13:2). Do you ever entertain strangers?
Jesus also taught about our possibility of tapping into the power of God through agreement with others on this cursed earth. Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. (Matthew 18:19). It makes me wonder, what power we may have as disciples of Jesus Christ! Of course, Jesus also promised to join us when we gather in His Name. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." (Matthew 18:20). Will you be gathering in His name this Sunday in the church of your choice? You should go and get a power boost!
This Sunday is Father’s Day so if your father is still living on this earth, you should contact him and wish him a Happy Father’s Day! Do not forget your heavenly Father too and remember Him on this special earth day celebration.
Let us end this VOW with the first verse of the song, Standing on the Promises of God.
Standing on the promises of Christ my King
Through eternal ages let his praises ring
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing
Standing on the promises of God!
Wishing all the fathers a
Happy Father’s Day!
