The Holy Spirit Supplies Believers A WAY To Avoid The Worldly Attractions To Our Sinful Nature!
1 Corinthians 1:7-9 (NIV)
Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.
Some people are still waiting for a savior of some sort to come into their world. So, the starting of this commentary is appropriate for such people. Have you accepted Jesus Christ as the Savior in your earthly life? If you have already decided to put Jesus Christ First in your life, then you will once again be ready to hear the account of Jesus being born into this cursed world for the purpose to supply all of mankind with the One and Only Savior that God the Father has made available in this world! Then as Paul wrote for us, “you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.”
Jesus was the Son of Man for about thirty-three years as He walked this earth as a man. However, He was and still is the Son of God! Jesus Christ is now the only Way offered by God the Father for you to save your immortal soul, and your opportunity to accomplish that is limited to this lifetime! How are you doing on managing your lifestyle, so that Jesus Christ is leading your life, as you work on becoming more like Him, as the Son of Man, every day for the rest of your mortal life?
Remember, Jesus lived as the Son of Man, so He knows about the temptations you will experience in this life. Jesus knew we would have difficulty in avoiding temptations because of our (your) sinful nature, so He gave us (you) the Holy Spirit to help us, if we allow this Spirit to assist us. "If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor to be with you for ever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. (John 14:15-17). Jesus told us the key is, “"If you love me, you will obey what I command.”
Since believers all have the help of the Holy Spirit to help us avoid sinning, then Jesus expects us to tell unbelievers how having Jesus Christ in our life has improved our outlook on life. So, Jesus gave us the Great Commission, when He said, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:19-20). Do note, Jesus said to not only tell unbelievers how knowing Him has improved our outlook, but we are to teach “them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
Paul wrote about how the temptations we experience are often experienced by all believers. Then, Paul goes on to say that Jesus will supply us (you) with a way we can get out of the mindset that would trap us into committing the sin. No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. (1 Corinthians 10:13). Paul then tells us the Jesus will give us an opportunity to be able to avoid sinning, if we really do not want to be sinful!
In that transition period most of us experienced, or maybe are experiencing, as we went from being unbelievers to believers, we worked on trying to become more Christ-like there may be some unrest and turmoil or wrath in our lives. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. (1 Thessalonians 5:9-11). So, we should be trying to offer listening to other believers as they may grapple with sinful opportunities.
Okay, yes, I know that at this time of year we are supposed to be celebrating the birth of Jesus into our world, but without Jesus becoming the Savior of the world, His birth would not have become some event in history to celebrate! Believers know that His birth was the one and only virgin birth, but then again, most people in this world today, do not believe that fact! Of course, Jesus had to be born of a virgin, so He did not inherit the sinful nature passed on from the Fall of Man, when Adam and Eve committed that first or original sin.
Next week’s VOW I promise to center it around the events recorded when Jesus was born into this cursed world! So, please stay tuned!
