Do You Seek To Follow God, Or The god Of This Age?
2 Corinthians 4:4 (NIV)
The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
When you reach a certain age, you will find yourself spending a lot of your time thinking about the “Here After!” Have you ever walked into a room, and then stopped, and ask yourself the question, “What did I come in here after?” This term is sometimes used to describe where our immortal souls will reside after we die to this mortal life. Believe it, we all have an immortal piece that Jesus created and named Adam and Eve! We are all descendants from these original soul mates! We did not evolve from some lower life form, we devolved from our original created parents.
Most people do not believe what I just wrote in the above paragraph, and it appears that each new generation coming into this cursed world will continue this falling away from this Biblical truth. What do you believe about your stature in this world. Are you included as a member of the “top of the food chain,” and thus heading for a death that will end your existence forever? Or do you believe you are a member of those who were created with an immortal soul that will leave this cursed world and go live in heaven with Jesus Christ?”
Just before Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead and reinstated his life, He had a conversation with his sister Martha. Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" "Yes, Lord," she told him, "I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world." (John 11:25-27). Jesus continues to ask all of us this question, “Do you believe this?" note what Jesus said that applies to all those who choose to follow Him. Jesus said, “He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.”
Jesus here is referring to the second death, for as we all know we are all going to die who live in this cursed mortal world. So, here Jesus is telling Martha, and all of us who believe in Him that we will not taste the second death, which is the death that takes you to hell when you die. The only Way to avoid this second death is by believing that Jesus Christ is the only Lord and Savior given by God through His one plan of salvation.
Many people believe that if you are a good person you will go to heaven when you die, no matter what you believed in this life. This is NOT what God’s Word tells us! God gave the world a book to supply the salvation plan that God will honor when you leave this cursed world. The curse of mortal death came into this world when Adam committed that first or original sin. This curse is passed on to each new human being when they are given life by God and enter this cursed world.
Paul wrote about how each person is changed from a mortal being into an immortal one by accepting the salvation offered only by Jesus Christ Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (2 Corinthians 5:17). Of course, the change is not that immortality is added, it is just that the immortal piece of you will reside when you leave this mortal cursed world! Are you ready to leave this world? You will die someday, and if you have not already accepted salvation through Jesus it is then too late to have your immortal soul saved!
Paul wrote more about how we are changed through salvation. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Do not wait to claim your salvation! If you are planning someday to read the Bible, and then decided if the salvation plan is true.
Jesus’ brother James wrote about this, here today and gone tomorrow reality that all human beings live with in this cursed world. Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. (James 4:13-14). The Bible tells us that no one is guaranteed tomorrow.
Recently we prepared to watch Monday Night Football, and when we tuned in after the start of the game, we saw an extremely unusual site on the field. It was obvious that a large number of football players were huddled in prayer around something on the field of play. Of course, by now likely everyone reading this knows a player had collapsed and was lying on the field and was being attended by a bevy of medically trained people. This player had died, well his heart stopped beating, and thus, he was being resuscitated. Now, jumping to the current status of this player as most of you know he lived and is regaining his strength.
However, the big story here to me is that this nation, and in part this world, responded to this calamity by going to God or a god or gods in prayer. When it becomes obvious that truly, only God decides who will live in this world, and who will die, and when they will die! Down deep everyone identifies with some supreme being that must or may exist that makes the final decision on when you will die! Atheists believe that we all will eventually die, and that is the end of that mortal being, just like all other animals.
I believe there is only one God, and it is the Triune God of the Bible! What do you believe? We may have or had an opportunity to talk to some loved one or a friend who struggles with belief in God/Jesus/Holy Ghost as being the only answerer of prayers, and the only God offering a true plan of salvation. This window of prayer is closing or may have already closed, which could allow a serious discussion about the reality of the existence of this one and only true God.
As the selected verse tell us, “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” Do you have friend who has been blinded by following mother nature or some other god or gods created by mankind? The God of the Bible created mankind, not the other way around. You can read about it in the book of Genesis! Tell someone that this God of the Bible starts all life and decides when to end the life of all living creatures. Only human beings were made in the image of God, and possess a piece of them that is immortal, which out lives this mortal cursed world.
Where will your immortal soul spend eternity? This is the most important accomplishment of the mortal lifetime!
