Do You Believe Jesus Actually Rose From The Dead?
Matthew 28:5-6 (NIV)
The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said."
This Sunday we Christians will again be celebrating the historic event of Jesus rising from the dead. This is not just an historic event; it is THE historic event of all history! Many people around the world do not share our faith that this event actually occurred. Unfortunately many people who call themselves Christians do not believe this event did occur!
For those of us who do believe this event did in fact occur, and because of it we have faith that we can be saved. We believe there is NO OTHER METHOD by which we will be saved! Paul told us how we can be saved in Romans 10: 9 and 10, "If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."
God chose to send His Son into this world in order that ALL people could be saved. His desire that all will be saved; however, He did not allow many methods by which we can be saved. This is difficult for many people to accept that God only devised one plan, but it is true. We need to respect other people’s opinions and show respect for their beliefs, but if we love them we must tell them about Jesus. To not do so is to allow them to lose their immortal soul. While we do need to respect other people’s opinions we must try to understand what God is telling us in the Bible. Only the Bible is the word of God that has been revealed to the writers of the Bible by God. Jesus has told us through John that He is the only way, Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6)
Some people think we are intolerant because of our belief that Jesus is the only way anyone can be saved. It is true we do not know the full intentions of God! However, the Bible is very clear on this issue! We must believe God’s Word not the beliefs of other people. Do we really know if God will save other people at the end of this world? If we believe that the Bible is the word of God, then it seems inescapable! Thank God, we do not have to decide who will and will not be saved! The only requirement to be saved is to believe Jesus is who He says He is!
Jesus has arisen from the dead! Because He did we can be saved! Believe it, because Jesus told us so. It is in the Bible, check it out for yourself! Do not seek another way, because there isn’t one! If you love other people tell them about Jesus, because the knowledge will save their life.
An old adage says, "You cannot live forever!" As followers of Jesus we know that old adage is not true! Many things people tell us are not true. Depend not on people but upon God, because what He tells us is always true!
He has told us, "He is not here; he has risen, just as he said." He is not dead, and because of this historic event, neither are we!
Jesus gave His disciples a command while He still walked the earth with them, and this command is transferred to each of His followers today, and because of it we are considered to be friends of Jesus. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no-one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. (John 15:12-14)
What a friend we have in Jesus!
