Jesus Reached Out And Touched You. "I Am Willing," He Said. "Be Clean!"
Luke 5:12-13 (NIV)
While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean." Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" And immediately the leprosy left him.
It is likely most; if not all the people reading this, do not have a terrible skin disease similar to what this man had. So it is also very likely you would not be praying for Jesus to heal you of this terrible skin disease, but have you ever prayed for something that would be, or is, as terrible to you? Notice what Jesus’ response was to this man, who stated, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Then Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" Do you need Jesus to make you clean or to heal you of something that could cause you to be untouchable too?
In the time that Jesus walked this earth as a man, and yet today, there are people who have leprosy on this earth, so it is possible someone reading this does have leprosy, but it seems unlikely. Of course, this commentary is not being directed only to people suffering with a terrible skin disease. It is a fact that everyone reading this does have within them a sinful nature, and that can be much worse than any disease, if left untreated! Have you asked Jesus to cure this sinful nature? There is only one cure for this malady, and it is the grace available through Jesus Christ. If you ask Jesus He will answer you just like He did to this person with leprosy. Jesus will say to you too, "I am willing," "Be clean!"
This man was cured of a disease that likely would eventually end his lifetime living on this earth. However, the healing that Jesus offers is started immediately in your lifetime on this earth, but it does not end then. It transports you into eternity, when you die to this earthly lifetime! Staying “clean” is a lifelong struggle, but it is really only available to you through Jesus Christ. As soon as you accept it, you can then get on the narrow path that will lead to Jesus when you depart this earthly lifetime. What an amazing offer given to all those who will accept it, it was put into existence when Jesus died for you on that cross some 2,000 plus years ago.
In the Bible Jesus told us about this promise He made available to everyone who would accept it, one such place was supplied by John. Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" "Yes, Lord," she told him, "I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world." (John 11:25-26) Do you believe as Martha did? My hope is that you do! Martha said, "I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world."
Jesus is talking to Martha a sister of Lazarus in the above verses, before He brings Lazarus back to this life. Jesus asks her a question that most people today could not answer correctly. The question is, “He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” Do you believe that every human being is born with an immortal soul, which is the life giving part of them, as it is created in the image and likeness of God! Within in you there is both a sinful nature you inherited from Adam, and then, there is also an image of God, which can be enacted when you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior!
Following is a wonderful promise Jesus made to all those who would chose to be His disciples. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going." (John 14:2-4) Did you get that promise, Jesus said He will come back, “I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” I don’t know about you, but for me this is the greatest promises I could ever receive!
Most of us truthfully may ask as Thomas did. Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:5-6) Jesus affirms to all of us that He is the way, the only way by which we can go to heaven when we die to this life. Have you accepted this, the greatest gift of all, yet? If not why not! It is a gift, you cannot earn by anything you can do in this lifetime, and it is your free ticket to heaven and life eternal with our Heavenly Father!
Your ticket was marked paid in full when Jesus died on that cross for you! You can claim it by just claiming Jesus as your Lord and Savior! If you are still wondering, Jesus has told you He is willing to cure you of your earthly baggage, as He did for that man who had leprosy. Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" And immediately the leprosy left him. Have you allowed Jesus to cure your uncleanness! He is the only way by which you may be saved. Now surely, that is an offer you cannot refuse!
Easter is coming soon, but there is no reason to wait, believe now and claim the prize. Your salvation awaits your acceptance by affirming that it is the truth! Knowing Jesus is the greatest truth ever available to mankind.
