You Can Be Certain That Jesus Is The Messiah! (Part 2 of 2)
Luke 16:31 (NIV)
“He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
This is the last verse in a story about two men living and dying, and then what happened to them in the afterlife! One of them was rich by earthly standards, the other was very poor. The poor man was taken up to Heaven the rich man was cast into Hell. Whether YOU are rich or poor, where will you spend eternity? If you do not believe YOU are going to heaven, don’t you think it is time to find out? Do not wait and see; that is what the rich man in this story did. Read the whole story in Luke 16:19-31.
When we die the only decision we made in this lifetime that will save our soul, so we spend eternity with God, is our acceptance of Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior! No accumulation of power or money or possessions will help us be saved. When a person dies all of the “things” of this earth are left behind, and do not help them get into heaven!
There are over 100 Bible prophecies that Jesus fulfilled to prove He is the Messiah. Note: The selected verses were taken from Bible study materials created by my friend and mentor Bill Oehler. Following are just a few of these prophecies that will hopefully, help you believe, if you are having trouble understanding who Jesus is! If you already believe, these may help you celebrate the life of Jesus on this earth, during this Christmas season!
Some people will tell you that Jesus never claimed to be the Messiah, I have been told that too, but it is not true! The woman said, "I know that Messiah" (called Christ) "is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us." Then Jesus declared, "I who speak to you am he." (John 4:25-26)
The prophecies are listed with the Old Testament prophecy first, then the fulfillment of that prophecy in the New Testament.
The Triumphal Entry:
Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. (Zechariah 9:9)
They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the King of Israel!”
Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is written, “Do not be afraid, O Daughter of Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey's colt.” (John 12:13-15)
Betrayed By A Friend:
Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me. (Psalm 41:9)
Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them. (Mark 14:10)
Thirty Pieces Of Silver:
I told them, “If you think it best, give me my pay; but if not, keep it.” So they paid me thirty pieces of silver. (Zechariah 11:12)
Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: “They took the thirty silver coins, the price set on him by the people of Israel. (Matthew 27: 9)
The Potter’s Field:
And the LORD said to me, “Throw it to the potter” --the handsome price at which they priced me! So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the LORD to the potter. (Zechariah 11:13)
The chief priests picked up the coins and said, “It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.” So they decided to use the money to buy the potter's field as a burial place for foreigners. (Matthew 27:6-7)
Crucified With Sinners:
Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. (Isaiah 53:12)
Two robbers were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left. (Matthew 27: 38)
His Hands And Feet Were Pierced:
Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. (Psalm 22:16)
Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” (John 20:27)
His Side To Be Pierced:
And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son. (Zechariah 12:10)
Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. (John 19:34)
Cast Lots For His Clothes:
They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing. (Psalm 22:18)
And they crucified him. Dividing up his clothes, they cast lots to see what each would get. (Mark 15:24)
He Was Buried With The Rich:
He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. (Isaiah 53:9)
As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus.
Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus' body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him.
Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away. (Matthew 27:57-60)
To Be Resurrected:
Because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. (Psalm 16:10)
He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. (Matthew 28:6)
The Ascension:
When you ascended on high, you led captives in your train; you received gifts from men, even from the rebellious--that you, O LORD God, might dwell there. (Psalm 68:18)
When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. (Luke 24:50-51)
Shall Bring Judgment On Gentiles:
Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him and he will bring justice to the nations. (Isaiah 42:1)
Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. (Matthew 12:18)
You can believe it, He is the Messiah! You must accept Him as your personal Savior! For there is no other way to save your immortal soul! Salvation is found in no-one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved. (Acts 4:12)
Wishing you a Merry Christmas!
