All Jesus Requires Of Those He Cures They Ask Him To Heal Them And Believe He Can!
Romans 3:10-12 (NIV)
As it is written: "There is no-one righteous, not even one; there is no-one who understands, no-one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no-one who does good, not even one."
Recently, a long time VOW recipient responded to one edition with the following comments: This is another good VOW; a comment is brought to mind. A few weeks ago, our pastor is our SS teacher he asked what do you think when the Bible says 'fear the Lord your God?' I answered to me fear the Lord your God means to be in awe or to be reverent of the Lord not fear (shaking in my boots). Class talked about reverence for a while it was a good talk as most people think 'fear the Lord your God' is shaking in our boots kind of fear when God doesn't want us scared of Him for He is a loving God. --These comments are being used as a basis for this VOW!
In this cursed world it is difficult, almost impossible, for any member of mankind to NOT have some fear of the Lord! Yes, fear comes to mind, not awe, as we plod through our life, being concerned about mundane situations, and for us to think we could suddenly becoming face-to-face with the living, Holy, Holy, Holy, God, is a very fearful thought! It certainly is for me! What about you, have you contemplated having Jesus suddenly come near this earth to Rapture His followers who are still alive on this cursed earth? Are you ready for this event? It is coming someday; it could happen today! Are you ready to fly? That is to fly up to meet Jesus in the sky. When this event occurs, millions or even billions of people will leave this earth and fly up into the sky to join Jesus. Most Christians say there are looking forward to this event, and hope it happens soon!
Yet we have great fear that many people will die, and their immortal souls will go either to hell or to heaven soon. We think of this event with great dread as many people will die during this virus driven event. Yes, I know this event certainly should not be compared to the coming rapture, but think about it, the results are very similar. The huge difference is that many people who are dying now, will have their immortal souls going to hell, because they have not believed in Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Okay, then what can I write here today that will not be taken as a very poor comparison to the rapture. The problem today is the loss of the souls of those who will die that do not hold Jesus in awe, they do not fear the Lord God! Awe represents a knowledge of the Triune God and a positive fear of what control Jesus may employ to help us control this invisible invader that has come into our world! Many people today live by a motto of, “If it feels good do it!” not many people live by a motto of, “Build first treasures in heaven, and then God will bless you with good things from this earth!” Do you hold in awe the Lord and expect His blessings in this life, because you first worked on accumulation of treasures in heaven?
Paul wrote to the church in Rome, and us, about people who have no fear of God, or they do not hold God in awe! "There is no fear of God before their eyes." Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Therefore no-one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. (Romans 3:18-24). Our hope of salvation is only possible if we hold Jesus Christ in awe, so that salvation will come through the grace of God the Father.
In the New Testament NIV translation, there are 16 references to an angel or Jesus saying, “Do not be afraid.” So, while we are to fear the Lord, we are not supposed to be afraid to come into the presence of the Lord. One such reference was made to Joseph Jesus’ foster father. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 1:20). This of course is when Joseph was told that Mary had not cheated on him and became pregnant. Another such reference is also recorded by Matthew. Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10:28). Here Jesus is teaching about being afraid of Satan and what his mission is in this world to attempt to take people to hell when they die!
When Jesus still walked this earth as the God/man people saw the miracles He performed and thus held Him in awe! There are several references to the praise, “Filled with awe!” in the New Testament. (NIV). One such reference was recorded by Matthew. But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins…." Then he said to the paralytic, "Get up, take your mat and go home." And the man got up and went home. When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to men. As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. "Follow me," he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him. (Matthew 9:6-9). We did not get to see Jesus perform miracles in our sight, as these people did. Here also we get to read about how Matthew dropped what he was doing and followed Jesus.
Another account of how people who saw Jesus in action and witnessed Him performing miracles, and therefore, they held Jesus in awe! Here is an account of how Christianity was growing through people who knew something about Jesus, and they held Him in awe. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. (Acts 2:42-44). All Christians should hold Jesus in awe, and certainly have no fear of Him, because they have come to believe that Jesus performed miracles and cured many people from whatever disease or infirmities they may have had. All Jesus requires of those He cures is that they ask Him to heal them and believe He can!
Please remember, that death in this lifetime is not the end, it is a beginning for all those who have a fear of God, and thus hold Jesus in awe. Please also believe that Jesus is in the business of curing all illnesses, so do pray for being cured of the coronavirus or any other sickness or infirmity. All you must do is ask Jesus through prayer! I’m not sure this commentary answered the question posed by a VOW reader. I hope it did, and maybe help others who fear this current health threat!
