So, We Are Not Dead Until God Decides To Take Away “The Breath Of Life!
Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Many people today believe that mankind evolved over millions of years and through death and suffering we just happened to become the highest animal and in control of the food chain. However, God’s Word tells a completely different story, in which Jesus created the universe after He created the earth, and that mankind is why it all was created! This earth was designed and created with the sole purpose of being a place for mankind to live. A big bang did not or could not create anything, explosions always destroy things it does not create them. Everybody knows that!
For the most part we all agree that there was nothing in existence then a supernatural event(s) occurred, and a big bang, or an indescribable Creator created the universe. If random chance processes accidentally caused it to come into being, or a super intelligent and loving God created this universe as a place for mankind to live! Think about it, which one of these stories makes sense to you. It takes faith to believe either story, thus these are both religious belief systems!
The creation process is defined for us in Genesis, and it does not allow any long-time passage before God created the animals and finally, He created mankind. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was so. God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. (Genesis 1:30-31). Note the term, ” the breath of life” which God breathed onto each creature He created that would live on this earth to accompany mankind, which is His final creation on the new earth.
The final piece of God’s creation was when He created mankind, who He gave the responsibility to protect the earth and all the creatures God created to sustain mankind on this new earth. The LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. (Genesis 2:7-8). Mankind’s first job assignment was to maintain the Garden of Eden.
Jumping ahead about 1656 years we find that mankind had become so evil that God saw fit to destroy all the creatures that have “the breath of life” in them. I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. (Genesis 6:17). Then God found faith in Noah and had him build an Ark to save the animals to start over a new world. So, God sent the animals He wanted to save to Noah to be kept alive for this new world. Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark. (Genesis 7:15) All the creatures living on the earth that did not come on the Ark died in the worldwide Flood. Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died. (Genesis 7:22)
The writer of Psalm 139 indicates what he believed about how human beings are created in preparation for entry into this world Jesus created for us. For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. (Psalm 139:13-16).
This earth was created for mankind to live on, and it was step number one of the creation accounts in our Bible. The next two days of creation God established the environmental area where mankind was to live. Then on day four God created the rest of the universe. On days five and six God created all the animals He deemed necessary for mankind to use for survival. Then finally at the end of day six, God did a Special Creation of mankind. This was all done to supply the elements needed for mankind to live here.
Okay, now for the difficult part about this term “the breath of life.” While many land-dwelling animals share his breath of life there is another term God used in reference to the creation of mankind. This is the written account of Adam’s line. When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. He created them male and female and blessed them. And when they were created, he called them "man". (Genesis 5:1-2). So, from the beginning of time man was able to reproduce additional members of mankind, which also carry an immortal soul that has the “the breath of life.”
It is obvious that this “breath of life” was instituted by God at the beginning of time and is maintained by Jesus until the earth is filled to the prescribed number God is seeking. The evidence for it is displayed ever time an animal or man stops breathing and “the breath of life leaves them allowing the body to die. A good example of this is when a healthy young person drops dead, their body is still complete thus life could continue, but they die. “The breath of life stops, and they are dead. However, we have learned how to resuscitate someone, and they can have “the breath of life return and they are returned to life.
This mysterious “breath of life is the essence of life that God instituted, and that Jesus maintains every day on this earth! In Revelation we can read about the two witnesses who were killed and lay there for over three days. But after the three and a half days a breath of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet, and terror struck those who saw them. (Revelation 11:11). God returned them to life, much as Jesus did for Lazarus when He still walked this earth!
So, we are not dead until God decides to take away “the breath of life!
