Salvation Is A Gift To A Sinner, And Is A Personal Award Granted By Jesus!
Revelation 22:20 (NIV)
He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
Jesus said, "Yes, I am coming soon." Soon may refer to when you die in this mortal life, not when Jesus returns to this earth! When we die to this mortal life our immortal soul goes not into the grave, but it goes to a waiting area sometimes referred to as the Paradise of God. This is what I believe occurs with our immortal soul departs from our mortal body when we die. This is part of the Good News for followers of Jesus Christ. However, this departing of the soul occurs to all members of mankind when we die in this cursed world. If your soul is not intercepted by Jesus Christ it is instead directed by Satan toward another waiting place with its final destination being the lake of fire, AKA hell. Do you know where your soul is headed for when you die? This is the most important event to know about in your lifetime. Only members of the Body of Christ know where their immortal soul will go when they die. This is wonderful news for us, as we can know for sure that their soul will be with Jesus Christ where He is forever!
We all carry a conduit to Satan, which is our mortal sinful nature we inherited from the sin that caused the Fall of Man! However, we also carry an immortal soul, which is created by God and inserted into every human being, even before the reproductive act fertilizes the egg in a woman, who will give birth to a new member of mankind! Neither the sperm nor the human egg contains an immortal soul, as God created it before fertilization! Animals do not have an immortal soul, and this is what separates us from the animals. Each member of mankind is a special creation event and is endowed with a soul which is created in the image and likeness of God! Just as Adam and Eve had an immortal soul so do all members of mankind. Before they committed that first sin, they did not have a sinful nature, but immediately when they sinned they received the first curse of their sinful nature. Thus, all those who would follow them on this now cursed earth would receive a sinful nature!
Jesus promised His followers that He would be our representative with His Father when we arrive in the waiting place until this cursed earth is replaced by the new earth AKA heaven. Luke wrote what Jesus said about this guarantee from Jesus. I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God. But he who disowns me before men will be disowned before the angels of God. (Luke 12:8-9). Notice what Jesus said about what will occur for followers, and what will happen to those who choose not to follow His Way! Just like the apostle Thomas admitted he did not know the way to heaven. Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:5-6). Jesus also said He is preparing a place in heaven for all those who choose to follow Him.
Paul wrote about this separation of our body and soul and the guarantee from the Lord about our soul’s eternal destination. Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. We live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due to him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad. (2 Corinthians 5:5-10). During this cursed lifetime we are separated from the Lord, but He has guaranteed that through faith in Him we will be united with the Lord, and we will receive a reward for what we did during our earthly lifetime.
Remember, salvation is an award, as it is given through the love of God expressed through the perfect sacrifice offer by Jesus for you! Then when we arrive before the Lord, we will have all the good and bad things we did on this earth exposed to the Lord and His angels. Then based on this review we will receive a reward earned through the good deeds we did. If we are there before the Lord we have been saved from the stain of our sins, which have been coved by the blood shed by Jesus on that cross. Our sins will be made known, but they are then covered by the perfect sacrifice offered by Jesus. Yes, this is being repeated because it is such a wonderful promise to hear!
Paul wrote about the struggles of life on this cursed world, and then, he compares these struggles to the great reward which we are being promised by the Lord. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. (2 Corinthian 4:17-5:1). Paul here is echoing the Promises of God and trying to get us to downplay the struggles of this life on this earth and uphold the promises of God to help us share in the joy of the Lord. God has awarded us salvation as followers of Jesus Christ, and He is telling us to be looking forward also to a reward in heaven.
So, maybe that is what Jesus Christ is referring to when He is telling John what to write in Revelation! Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. (Revelation 22:12). So, here when Jesus is saying “Behold, I am coming soon!” Jesus is meaning He will come soon to meet you at your death to take you to where He is immediately. Then the next statement Jesus makes, “My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done,” is meant to occur when each of His followers die and leave this cursed world! You are awarded heaven and then rewarded for the good deeds you did during your earthly life. He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. (Revelation 22:20).
