God Is Planning A New World Where There Will Be No Disease Or Suffering Or Death!
Matthew 10:1 (NIV)
He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.
Don’t touch that doorknob! Don’t touch your face! Don’t shake hands with anyone! Don’t go anywhere there are people congregating! Keep six feet between you and any other member of mankind! It is a scary time we now live in! There is impending doom everywhere as the COVID-19 pandemic has now started. If you are over 50 years old, you are living in a dangerous time. You dare not leave your house or you may contact the pandemic virus! I’m old enough to remember a time when staying home and playing games with only your family members was not an unusual thing. Our nearest neighbor was about a half mile away, if you crossed the field that adjoined our property! By road they were about one mile away! Yes, I was raised on a farm, and spending time with your family was commonplace. There was no TV as it had not yet become normal for everyone to have a TV. Our phone was a party line, meaning you shared the line with up to 10 other people. If they were using the phone line, you could not place a call until they finished their call and hung-up their phone!
Today we carry our phone with us and can call others with no need to wait our turn on the phone line! Most of us likely have more than one Smart TV in our homes, which allows us to order food either by phone or even through our TV. However, being alone with other members of our family is foreign to us, and somehow may violate our privacy. Most young people would have some trouble sitting down and reading a book, which is likely available to them on their phone or IPAD! So, sit down and relax and maybe you can cancel our counseling session with your shrink! That would eliminate some unnecessary contact with another possible virus carrier! No, I’m not meaning to make light of this very serious ailment. If fact, please do try your best to follow all these rules! I find it difficult to remember to not touch the door when arriving or leaving some public building, without a tissue in my hand.
In today’s selected verse Jesus is giving His disciples the, “authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.“ When I read this account it makes me wonder what power Jesus may give you (us) if we could just believe!? Jesus is referring to His Apostles in this account and they were the people He chose, but they were not special people in any way, yet He gave them this power, and later we read about them using this power to heal many diseases! These disciples had to have faith that Jesus could give them this power to heal before it would work. The writer of Hebrews wrote about how our faith enables us to please God. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Hebrews 11:6). This is talking about how we have power to ask God for healing through prayer. The least we can do is to pray for God to remove this pandemic from our world. Paul wrote about how God always remains faithful even when we may not be faithful in asking Jesus to help us. What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith nullify God’s faithfulness? Not at all! Let God be true, and every man a liar. As it is written: "So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge." (Romans 3:3-4).
God will always continue to be faithful even if some of us are not faithful to keep on praying for His intervention! Please take time to pray for God to intervein in this pandemic and end it. Remember too that mankind is responsible for upholding this world, and we have not done a very good job of it, but I do not want us to all accept blame for this dangerous outbreak. This world is running down, so to speak, but remember that is God’s plan. Also, very important, remember God is planning a new world one in which there will be no disease or suffering or death! Please think of that wonderful news, as we go through this period of not such a nice time. Jesus wants us to be the upbeat ones during this time as we know there will be a better place waiting for us, so then we can be the bright spot to those who cannot have faith in God! Jesus told us we are to be the bright spot, and we should maintain joyful feelings. Jesus said, "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16). We need to be supplying the light to those who are living in darkness. So, let your light shine before others, that they might praise God for His desire for them to remain joyful, even during this time of trouble!
Today we need to pray for God to intervene in this pandemic and end it soon! Do remember that better times are planned by Jesus for a replacement world where all believers will live forever. Read what John wrote about after God revealed to him the future planned for all those who chose to follow Jesus in this lifetime. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." (Revelation 21:3-4). No more death and suffering in this new world being prepared for you and me!
In this time of darkness in our present world we need to try and encourage those who may not believe in Jesus to be the Savior of this world, so that they will share in the new world that God has planned for His children. Jesus says to us, “This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” (John 15:8). Do you appear to others as a disciple of Jesus? Don’t worry, be happy!
