I Do Not Have To Earn God’s Love!
Matthew 18:3-4 (NIV)
And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Little children are very receptive to suggestions and are more likely to follow instructions than adults, who may believe they know better than their instructor. Adults often look for reasons to not believe instead of trying to seek a reason to believe. Most people will try to see what they may gain by believing in what is being presented. While children may have similar thought processes, they are more apt to believe, because they have fewer negative ideas. Adults have built up a resistance to accepting some idea based purely on how the subject is presented. Many adults resist the story that Jesus died for their sins, because it seems too simple of an answer. That may be why Jesus said, “unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Jesus is saying in effect, that you will not want to accept salvation as a free gift, because many adults believe there is no such thing as a gift that is free. If you cannot pay for it, then there are always strings attached, it is never totally free!
Many people will turn down salvation because they just cannot believe it is being offered to them free from God! Can you believe that there is nothing you can do to earn salvation? Many people will try to justify their salvation by the fact that they are leading a good life. Do you believe that you can be good enough to deserve to go to heaven when you die? Such people have a very difficult time believing that some person who has committed terrible acts during their life will go to heaven when they die, because they have at some point accepted the gift of salvation by accepting Jesus’ suffering and death, as payment for their sins! Such people may say, then why be a good person, if doing so will not result in you being destine for heaven when you die? We need to understand that in this cursed world we have inherited a sinful nature, which cannot be erased by being a good person, and trying to lead a good life on this cursed earth.
There is only one way offered by God for you to obtain heaven when you die to this mortal life! That requirement is for you to accept your salvation through the perfect sacrifice that Jesus made for you when He died on that cross over 2.000 years ago. There is no other way! We, like Thomas do not know the way to heaven, but we must be like a little child and accept our salvation through the grace offered by Jesus perfect sacrifice. Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him." (John 14:5-7). Jesus made it very clear for all of mankind when He said, “No-one comes to the Father except through me.” Can you be childlike and accept the salvation Jesus paid for by His death and resurrection even before you were born?
Paul wrote about how when you accept your salvation your mind is changed from a negative worldly viewpoint to a more positive worldview that is being directed by having your sinful nature being shielded by the presents of the Holy Spirit now indwelling your soul, causing you to believe you are now loved by God the Father! Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2). This causes you to begin to seek enjoyment in your life now through a screening process being directed by this Spirit, which gradually changes your evil nature to decrease its hold on you, and you can then begin to work on becoming more Christ-like every day! Peter wrote about how this realization of God’s love begins to become obvious when we have taken on Jesus as the controller of our life. This salvation is being offered to all of mankind, during their lifetime. Then Peter began to speak: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right. (Acts 10:34-35).
Before accepting this perfect salvation every member of mankind is subject to following Satan’s lead for your life. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (John 8:44). The worldly lifestyle is being directed by Satan. This can only be reversed by accepting Jesus salvation into your life. This cursed world is causing all mankind to lead a sinful life. Again, it can only be changed by accepting the salvation plan offered by Jesus. Immediately, when your salvation starts your immortal soul is guaranteed to spend eternity with Jesus. Your salvation is started, and your view of this lifetime is improved, and your expectations are improved. You can know that when you die your immortal soul is going to go to heaven, because your salvation is granted not because of anything you did, but because of what Jesus did in your stead!
Remember you do not have to earn God’s love, He loved you, so much that He had His Son die for your sins. As Jesus once said, As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. (John 15:9-11). Jesus said, I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. Is your joy complete?
You do not have to earn God’s love!
