Salvation Is Very Personal, As You Must Confess With Your Mouth, Jesus Is Lord!
Romans 10:9-10 (NIV)
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
Confession is good for the heart is a saying likely based on what Paul wrote for us. Salvation is always a gift, as there is no way for us to earn it by our own volition. No matter how good we believe we are, there is an underlying impossibility for all of mankind, as we all start this life with a sinful nature that owns us in this world. The only Way we can gain control of our sinful nature is to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Immediately when we do this the Holy Spirit can then indwell our soul and allow us to control our sinful nature. Only then can you (we) know that your immortal soul has been marked for salvation! Salvation is very personal, as you must “confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord!"
In the following account, Jesus is talking to Martha shortly before He is going to raise her brother Lazarus from the dead and return him to this mortal life. Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" "Yes, Lord," she told him, "I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world." (John 11:25-27).
Jesus is asking her if she knows who He is and what He is capable of doing, and then He asks her if she believes what He is saying about Himself, when He asks, “Do you believe this?” People who profess to be followers of Jesus must be able to positively answer this same question! We are all born into this mortal world, and we will all leave this world by dying. We also must believe that when we die in this world, there is a part of us that does not die. This immortal part of us will continue to live, and it will end up finally in either heaven or hell!
The Bible tells us that during this life we must believe what Martha believed about Jesus Christ, as following Jesus is the only salvation plan that God offers to mankind! Therefore, you must be able to answer Jesus’ questions by professing, “Do you believe this?” Jesus told the whole world that He is the only salvation plan that God offers to the mortal beings Jesus created us to live on this earth that He created for us!
Following is the greatest statement ever made to mankind, it must be the Words to live by for all people. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going." Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:2-6). This is the Good News! Now for the bad news, most of the people in this world today do not believe this! Do you? I believe this is the only absolute truth you will ever hear in this cursed world!
We live in a world where we are taught to obtain as much stuff as we can, and we then compare our holding to others and most of us come up short. However, we are told Biblically that anything we have will be left behind when we die. Therefore, realistically all our possessions are just ours temporarily. When we die, our stuff is left to those we now leave behind, and they sometimes squabble over it. The most important accomplishment we should be working on is where our immortal soul will end up when we die! Paul wrote about this for us. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV). So, how are you doing on this assessment of what is really important in your life?
It seems this is what Paul wrote about to the Philippian church! Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed— not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence— continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. (Philippians 2:12-13). Our most important task for this lifetime is to be working out our salvation! No, this does not mean you can gain your salvation by good works, it means we must be continuing to work on becoming more Christ-like, every day! How are you doing on this most important task?
Paul wrote more about this working out our salvation theme, and he starts us from the “In the Beginning” point of this world in which we live. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. (1 Corinthians 15:22-26). Because of that original sin we all inherit death in this mortal world, however, thank God for sending Jesus into this world to grant all His followers salvation and eternal life!
Yes, I know Easter is over, but it is like Easter every day, when someone accepts Jesus offer of eternal life with God the Father in heaven! Now, that is a great story, it is the greatest “true” story ever told! Paul wrote about this too. For he "has put everything under his feet". Now when it says that "everything" has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all. (1 Corinthians 15:27-28). Do you believe this great account of how and why Jesus Christ came into this cursed world? Is there someone you like or someone you love that “may” not believe this the greatest story ever told?
